how bad is it to rub ds's back at naptime?

at about 23 mo he started getting funny with naps. We changed nothing Sometimes he'll fall asleep on his own other days like today he played for 2 hours very happily in his crib. I went upstairs when he started to get upset and was standing and he laid down. I rubbed his back for 3 min and he was out! I know he still needs a nap and I think they rub his back sometimes at dc. He falls asleep on his own at night

  • For now, if it is only taking 3 minutes, I say it is fine.  If it turns into a half hour, then I would start questioning it.

  • I don't think it is a bad thing. Is it a regular thing or a one time thing?  If it is a regular thing I would try to shorten the length of time over a few days.

  • if it gets them to nap... DD refuses to nap 5 out of 7 days.  I would feed her donuts by hand while playing a soothing song on a lute if it worked.
  • On your deathbed.  Are you going to think "I wish I hadn't rubbed his back when he was two"?

It's such a lovely, loving thing to do.

  • ditto Zenya. ?We live in a society that makes us question everything we do to comfort our kids as making them "needy" or "too dependent". ?I think that's sad . ?How could rubbing his back be a bad thing??
