For those who previously had C-sections...

I really wasn't going to think too much right now about vbac vs. scheduling a c-section but it my bored state I was reading the stories on the Birth Stories board.  The doctor I go to now generally schedules c-sections if you've previously had one.  But since I'm moving next month this doctor isn't going to be delivering my baby.  I guess ever since I had my daughter I've always thought I would try to have a vbac...but now I'm going back and forth on the subject.  I wasn't heartbroken to have had a c-section like I know some women are and I really don't want to risk anything going wrong and risking not being being able to have more children.  Hmmm....anyhow, I was wondering what any of you were thinking about the subject.  If you had made a decision or if you were going back and forth on it as well.

Re: For those who previously had C-sections...

  • I am having a second c-section. I am happy to give birth without labor pains and with my hoo intact. I didn't have a bad recovery from the surgery and I don't want to risk rupturing my utuerus when pushing and killing me and my baby! Lots of women have lots of really good and valid reasons for wanting a vbac- I'm just not one of them!

  •   I'm going to have another c-section this time. It has been planned for a week before my due date. If I go into labor before that day then I may see how I do, but will probably end up having another c-section.

  • I'm doing a VBAC. ?I have 3 friends who have had successful VBACs and all three say that the recovery from a vaginal birth was far easier (and 2 of the 3 had 3rd degree tears). ?
  • I am having a second c-section!!!  I am happy to not have to go through the labor part again it was so horrible for me.  My doctor said he does allow woman to have a vbirth if they have had a c-section but for me I have to have a c-section which is fine by me!!!!

  • I?m also going through the same situation. I had an emergency c-section in 2000 and now being certain medical situations have the option to either go through another c-section or vaginal. Both have pros and cons that I?m concerned of; so I?m completely stumped.
  • I too, will be having another c/s. I'm honestly not very happy about it but:

    A) I JUST had DS this past June and it's wayyyy to early for a VBAC

    B) My hospital will NOT do VBAC's (we are very rural, so it's not an option to try and push elsewhere without driving 2-3 hours) UNLESS you're 9-10cm dilated and you have to push, LOL.

    C) I spoke with one of the OB's in my office and he said my chnaces of having a successful VBAC are less than 50% due to complications with DS =/

DH and I want lots of children and I'm pretty much relegated to 4 c/s IF all goes well. The thought of this upsets me but not much I can do about it. The recovery I thought wasn't that bad but c/s is major stress on your body...

O.K. now I'm rambling, lol. The fact that I had a c/s doesn't bother me, it's the fact that I won't even be able to try and have a VBAC unless our hospital changes it's policies.

  • I will be having another c/s.  Like you mentioned, I was not heartbroken over having one the first time.  I was secretly happy to avoid the pushing and the labor pains and everything else that comes with vaginal births.  On top of that, it's too early after my DS to attempt a vbac and my doctor whom I love won't perform them.  So it was an easy decision for me.

  • I just REALLY worry with the VBAC about having a complication that will prevent me from having more children.  I had to be put completely under when I had my daughter because of....well that's a long long story...anyhow that was really the only part of it that I didn't like.  As long as they can do it with me being awake this time I will be happy.  I guess I really thought I would just do a VBAC ever since I had my daughter just because it's the traditional way.  But not being traditional can't be too bad!  Cool  Ha ha.
