Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Are Baby Mum Mums safe?

I bought Kayla a box of baby mum mums while at Wal-Mart today.  My SIL told me not to give them to her until she is one because they are not safe.  Do you give your children baby mum mums?  If so, how old is DC?  Have they ever choked on the mum mum?

Re: Are Baby Mum Mums safe?

  • My DS loves mum mums more than anything!  They are very safe for little gums; in fact, I think they dissolve more easily than the Gerber wagon wheels and puffs.

  • You can give them to a baby as soon as they're doing well with solids.

When they gum/chew on them, they basically dissolve into goo instantly.  Pretty messy, but my baby totally dug it.

  • My DD eats them. I just break them into pieces and she eats them. She is 9mos. I haven't heard about them not being safe.  1/2 still fall on the floor but she hasn't had any problems with them. She only has 3 bottom teeth so she is still learning to actually eat them.
  • DD loves them. She's been eating them since about 7 months. They dissolve pretty quickly.

  • My child has never had a problem with Mum Mums.  I still break up crackers for him because he tries to put the whole thing in his mouth, Mum Mums are one of the only things I don't break up for him because they dissolve so easily.

  • They've been safe for DS. Do you mean choking or ingredients? He feeds them to himself and they dissolve a lot faster than other things (teething biscuits for instance). As far as ingredients MrsDonkey's DH ran tests on them (FDA, I think) and there is no melamine and someone else posted that they test each batch or shipment before they come over here.

  • DD has been having MumMums since she was about 7 months old.  She has never had any problems with choking on them.

I was a little concerned about the ingredients because there is a little sugar, but if you look at the actual sugar/carb content it is very very slight.

She LOVES them.  In fact?  Her first word was "Mum Mum" but I think she refers to all food as Mum Mum.

  • They dissolve quickly. They can get messy, but DD will eat a whole one with no problems. And I am psychotic about choking so I watch her like a hawk, but she has never even acted like she was choking a little bit.

  • We have tried them 3 times in last last week or so. All 3 times DS has broken a piece off with his 2 little teeth, gagged and threw up. So for us, they are not safe or my DS just isn't ready for them. I will bring them out again next month.

  • We've tried them and they dissolve very easily but DS is not very impressed.  He loves the EB's teething biscuits though.  If you worried about choking, try putting them in the mesh feeder.

They basically dissolve if you breathe on them. I think 6 months is a little early to start them, ds was around 8 months I think. I also don't think they are very messy - the earths best biscuits are so messy and disgusting in our house!

  • No, every box is filled with broken glass and angry snakes.

They are specifically for babies learning to eat solids. They aren't laced with honey and allergens and prescription drugs. You're SIL's off.

  • Yes, they are safe

Have been using since about 6 mos.

    No choking on them.
