When did you start looking at daycare centers?

I am wondering how early I need to start resesarching and getting on a list for day care centers in this area. I had two friends tell me that they got on waiting lists when they were only 3 months pregnant and that lists can be as much as a year long! This seems crazy, but I want to make sure I get a good daycare. I won't need daycare until next November. When should I start looking? I live in Snohomish County, but work in King County so I want something in between.

  • If you want a center, I'd suggest looking now. Home daycares can wait longer, I think.  I reserved my November spot (for a center) in February.

  • When I called around to daycare centers in Renton, they all had 9 month waiting lists.  I got on a list asap just to give myself a backup option while I continue to look into home daycares.

  • I looked at The Goddard School by me, today, and they said they couldn't take DS until June.

  • I got on the list last June for her to go mid-Feb but my second choice had an opening as early as Jan. Both are centers
