Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

A little update on my Harmon...

I've mentioned it a little, but my child has actually lost weight since we moved here 6 months ago.  He was 24 lbs when we left Las Vegas and he is down to 21 lbs.  We know he is more active but he has had a lot of stomach problems w/a teething diarhea, spiting up, and even a tummy bug.

So we got some good news today!  He is not allergic to anything!!!!  Test came out good and he has no virus or parasite either (my fear about small towns insisted they test for that).  So WOOT WOOT!  We still don't know why he isn't gaining weight (he grew another inch and is now 34 inches) so he wants us to go to Next Step rather than Whole Milk and said I need to start with even more table foods.  Oh well so that is our update.

  • Poor Harmon!  I am glad that you were able to get some positive results and can get him on his way to being healthier.

  • He's walking, right?  I know someone whose son went from 30 lbs at 12 months to 26 lbs at 15 months, just from moving around and not eating too much.  So, while I totally understand why you're worried, it does happen that they someimes lose weight at this age for no medical reason.

Good luck!  I hope the new formula helps.

  • Good for you for staying on top of things!  That's great that he doesn't have any allergies.  He'll catch up in his weight eventually - I know a mom whose baby went through the same kind of thing.

And holy tall baby, Batman!  Is your DH really tall?

  • Aw, poor Harmon. Hopefully the formula works for him. I'm sure he'll be fine!
  • wow. he's lean and tall!! I have the same problems with weight with DS. He's not gaining weigh as he's supposed to. He's only 18 lbs during his 1 yr check up. He eats 3x/day and drink milk 21 oz plus snack so we don't know why he's not gaining a lot. We did blood test and he's not anemic either. We just have to keep feeding him and more meat as pedi said. His height was 29". He's always on the move. I've been trying to ge table food, but his 4.5 teeth don't chew well, so i have to mash his food sometimes. Hopefully he'll be at least 20 lbs for his next check up.

  • francisca~  I am sorry about little Harmon. Poor little guy.  Could it be the water or are you still using nursery water?  I know when we go to Lake Tahoe, the water there does not nice things for my tummy (even DS).

On another note, thanks for the pic of your hair. Love it!  You are soooo brave. I wish I could do that because I LOVE dark hair (not sure it likes me though). :)

Oh and sending you some baby dust for Harm a sibling :)

  • Thanks everyone!  Nice to know I am not the only one with a little string bean Stick out tongue  We use Brita,.. it could be the water... I think I will switch just to try.

Amy you are the sweetest... hopefully this will be our month for Harmon's little brother or sister!  You better show us pictures when you do your hair.  I think the low lights might be a great subtle change... I was thinking you might be an adorable strawberry blonde as well if you wanted to be really daring Wink  Red is the one color I could never pull off!

  • YAY!!!

Positive Feedback is always good especially so the parents don't have to worry over the weekend..?

  • Well, that's good that he's not allergic to anything!  Hopefully he'll start to pack on the pounds!  GL
  • I'm glad everything checked out okay! :)

And dang girl he's tall! 34 inches? I wonder how tall my baby boy will be at his 1 year visit...I'm thinking 30 or 31 at best! lol

  • That is great news!
  • I wonder if you put Next Step in milk and not water if that would be more calories.

GL and I'm glad he's not allergic to anything

  • glad you got some good news!
  • Hey tha'ts great news! You're not alone, at austin's 12 month he had only gained 1 lb in 2 months, so he was 19lb 15 oz. and grew only 1/2" too in 2 months.  When we went to ER, coincidentally his 13 month date he LOST 1/2" to only be 19 lb and 8oz.  My pedi attributes it to walking, running & using his body weight for length not fat. He's been lean for a long time, probably around 6 months we started dropping off the 50% group. He sounds tall & lean, probably like his father or grandpa's :) We are also doing Enfamil Next Step & whole milk and he eats like a horse so eventually when he slows down maybe he'll gain some weight :) He's still got 2 small rolls on his legs so if those disappear then I'll worry LOL :)
