Valance or Valance/Curtain in nursery?

We bought the valance with our bedding set but now I am rethinking it b/c I am wondering if a curtain is needed in the nursery. We have the bamboo shades (which actually block most of the light) so a valance only would be ok...but would it look ok? Or would it look better to have a curtain and valance or just a curtain?

Re: Valance or Valance/Curtain in nursery?

  • I have blinds and curtains because it makes the room completely dark during the days when I want it to be nap time
  • Loading the player...
  • I have blinds and curtains as well, but because it looks pretty. I kind of not a fan of those violence things. It seems to me incomplete piece of fabric that was put on the window with no purpose.  Sorry.
  • I vote for valance only.  Although kiddo isn't going to be mobile and getting into things for quite awhile, I'm trying to make the whole nursery toddler safe now, just so that it's one less thing I have to worry about later.  My favorite look is floor-length curtains, but I just don't want to risk DS yanking the curtain rod down on himself or something.  I'm making a valance out of the crib bumper, and I actually think it'll turn out looking very nice and finished.
  • I think your shades and the valance will be fine. I plan to do the same, actually. No full curtain.

Something to think about--how close is the window to the crib? If it's fairly close, you definitely don't want to do curtains. The baby will use them to pull themselves up (after it gets old enough, of course). The curtains might either fall or allow the baby to crawl out of the crib.

Of course, you know that already. The warnings are out there. Not sure why I felt the need to post that.

  • We're doing the valance and blinds.
