The Gyn that I've seen since I was 16 moved, so I'm looking for a new one. I thought about just seeing somebody else in the practice (Women Partners in Health), but I'll probably be TTC in the not too distant future (within 5 years) and I'd like to go ahead and have a long relationship with a Dr. before that time comes. The thing is, I've long wanted to have as natural a birth as possible, preferably with a midwife. I'm not really sure how the relationship between Obgyn and midwives usually goes, but I'd definitely like a Dr. who is open to them. Does anybody know of local Obgyn practices that are midwife friendly or possibly even have them on staff?
Thanks so much!
Re: Obgyn Practices with Midwives
I see Dr. Yium at WPIH. I had a drug-free birth at Seton. She was really supportive and helpful when I told her I wanted as little intervention as possible. Dr. Oliver actually delivered my son (she was the doctor on call). She was great. I would recommend either of them. Which doctor left?
Seton doesn't permit midwife attended births. NAMC does. Dr. Christina Sebastyan (sp?) currently has midwives delivering in hospitals.
Good Luck
Doesn't Dr Seeker have midwives?
Bwa-ha-ha!
No way. His practice doesn't even allow doulas anymore and I guarantee he does not approve of the MW's model of care. He's like the anti-midwife. I could actually see him leading the charge to get MW's outlawed (but I know he'd do it in a very nice, soft-spoken, Mr Rogers type way.
The Mr. Rogers thing actually made me laugh out loud. I needed that today, thanks!
I lol, too, and I've never even met the man
Who am I thinking of, then? This is going to bug me...

Dr. Sebestyen at NAMC. She is absolutely wonderful. Can't say enough good stuff. The office is a little disorderly, but they have always, always been kind to me. Can't say that about the 2 other OBs I saw during my pg.
She actually fought to get midwives back into the hospital, too. If you do a Google search, you should be able to find the article in the Austin Chronicle.
