Do you use canned chicken???

Or am I a horrible wife for doing such a thing? ?I'm not very good at keeping fresh meat in stock when I am busy so I thought I'd try this. ?It's "all-natural" and I am using it in chicken white bean chili tonight.

I heard that Trader Joes makes something like this that I might try...?

  • I prefer frozen over canned, but you should be fine.

  • I have used it in things before like buffalo chic dip. It's SO easy!

  • I don't use it unless absolutely necessary. I usually buy a ton of chicken when it's on sale, cook it in crock pot, shred it, and refreeze in portions.

  • I can't deal with the texture, plus we try to avoid cans because of BPA concerns, excessive waste & energy in transport, and the amount of sodium and additives in many canned products.

I agree with the PP- look for flash frozen breasts if fresh just isn't working for you.

    Some other ideas:

-buy cooked rotissierie chickens and pick off the meat

-boil chicken en masse, then shred and freeze it- it makes quickly seasonable meat for tacos along with topping topping for potato, salad, and sandwich, pizza, nachos, etc,

    -crockpot meals

  • lol is it weird that I had no idea there was such a thing? ?But no I don't think it would be considered awful

ditto.  although now that I think about it someone once gave me a recipe that asked for it and I just assumed it was their own shorthand term.  oops.

I don't think it's horrible, but I would rather cook it myself and freeze portions.

  • I do, I'm the only one who eats it though.  I actually used some today to make some chicken salad for sandwhiches.  Mmmmm

    Recipe:

    1 large can of chicken

    1/2 block cream cheese

1/2 packet of dry ranch mix

about a T of mayo just to make it easier to stir up

    put on bread

    shove in mouth

    Mmmmmm

Ditto.  I try to have a can on hand for a quick meal but it's not my go to stuff.  It also works great if you toss it with bbq sauce for BBQ Chicken Pizza.

  • Okay, dinner was a bust. ?Awful texture and it tasted kinda like tuna. ?DH ate maybe 2 bites.

?I think I'll try making a bunch in the Crock-Pot next time as suggested.

  • I do use it all the time. My dh doesn't like tuna, but he will he this, so I use it for Chicken Cheese Melts, and it is a quick do for chicken tacos

  • Trader Joe's sells big bags of frozen chicken breasts that I use all the time. You can cook them in the oven and then use them... it only takes about 25 minutes and they stay moist and juicy, and definitely don't taste like tuna?Big Smile
