3rd Trimester

did you change your diet b4 GD test?

Ok alot of people have told me to change my diet the week of my GD test and though I see their reasoning and I know don't like pig out the night before on pizza or eat donuts for breakfast the day of the test, I don't see the point of essentially trying to "dupe" the test. Is this a good idea or not? Does everyone do this? Thanks, ladies!

Re: did you change your diet b4 GD test?

  • NO NO NO.  Do NOT change your diet.  If you want to eat a more reasonable breakfast the day of, go for it, but yes, otherwise you are essentially trying to fool the test.  If you do not have GD, what you eat will not affect the test.  (Barring a pig out on candy right before the test!)

  • No and I was told to fast -- nothing after midnight the night before my test so I couldn't have tried to "dupe" the test anyway...
  • My doctor said to eat a little different the night before and morning of. Your going to fail if you have it, but there are a lot of people that fail by a small margin and pass the 3 hour.

My dr suggested light on the carbs the night before, and eat eggs for breakfast.

  • Yeah, I ate healthier the day before and it worked! I got the highest number ever! LOL! Seriously, I don't think it really matters. But I think you may wanna stay away from hugely sugary items the morning of... You could get a false positive.

  • I just had mine today and I had no idea they were doing it.  I obviously ate everything I would typically.  We will see what happens next week.
  • If we are talking about the 1 hour test- DON'T FAST.  It will make you more likely to fail the test.  The 3 hour is fasting.  I, as someone who treats GD, ditzed out an fasted- then my doc told me not to.  I looked it up again and the second time I went (had 2) I ate.  Much better.  You can always ask your doc to be sure.
  • My doctor did not tell me anything. I do not even remember what i ate that day. One of my friends had a yogurt before the test and failed it.
  • No.  I actually think that is incredibly stupid.  Why would you not want to know if you have GD?  Wouldn't you want to manage it if you do in fact have it and do the best thing for you and your baby?  I just don't get trying to dupe the test.  So dumb.

that was my thoughts exactly!  I was like what if I change my diet and do have it and it doesn't show up?!  dangerous idea, much?

Glad to see that apparently the people i'm talking to are idiots! lol

  • I ate the dumbest breakfast the day of my one hour test.  I had cocoa krispies cereal, yogurt, an orange, and decaf coffee with creamer.  Yes, seriously, like two hours before the test.  It made absolutely no impact on the outcome -- I still passed.

Don't try to change your diet -- the test is there to protect you and your baby!  And, I'm pretty sure whatever the results will be, they will be whether you clean up your act for a few days or not :)

  • I just did the test on Monday. My doctor didn't give me any instructions. I ate chinese food for dinner the night before. In the morning I had a bagel w/cream cheese and a little bit of left over white rice. I took my test 3 hours later and past.
