3rd Trimester

FlexAll, Ben-Gay, et. al for sore muscles..

**Disclaimer: This is NOT an "OMG WILL WEARING A THONG STRANGLE MY BABY?!?!?" question. Smile  I'm planning to check with the doc... but I was just curious.

Did any of you guys use products like these (Flexall, ben-gay, zostrix)  for sore muscles (primarily my back) during your 3rd tri?

My bottle of flexall says to ask your doctor if you're pregnant or nursing, so I'm waiting to use is and will ask the dr. at my appt. this week.  I'm not sweating it, although I was just curious if anyone did use them or if your doctor cautioned against it.  What exactly is the risk, anyway?

Re: FlexAll, Ben-Gay, et. al for sore muscles..

  • My doc let me use icy-hot on my shoulders when they cramped up. But warned me not to abuse it.  If my pain was severe enough that I might need somthing else.  But for temporary and occassional use - its ok.

  • Flexeril is a catagory B in pregnancy, so that means there is no evidence of 2nd or 3rd trimester risk, fetal harm possible but unlikely.  I would still talk to your dr, but they might say it is okay.
  • I used Bengay, but the active ingredient in that is menthol, so it's basically like Vick's VapoRub.

  • i was allowed to use aspercreme. it saved my life when i sprained my shoulder.
