Why is your grandmother raising a dog for you?
My mom has my Shelby b/c I got Shelby at the same time as Jack (the one we still have), before I met DH. Shelby hated all men b/c she'd been abused. She doesn't do well in new situations. So when I brought her to our future home while we were still dating and passed out drunk in the bed, she growled and gnashed her teeth at DH and wouldn't let him near me even to get in bed. He couldn't wake my drunk ass up either, so he slept in his recliner.
Because of that incident and b/c Shelby doesn't do well with new people and is an escape artist we can't trust not to go under small gaps in our fence, she went to live the life of luxury with Grandma. Mom has a fenced in yard and a dog door for her critters to go in and out 24/7. Shelby's much happier there and doesn't even try to kill men anymore. It's worked out well for us, though mom throws a guilt trip on me every once in a while for good measure for "abandoning" my problem child.

I got Kacie when I was in college and living with my grandparents. When Dh and I got married and moved out I couldn't bare to take her away from them because they loved her and she loved them and she was used to having someone home with her all day and if I took her she would have been alone all day while we worked. So I left her there. I get the guilt trips too. "Kacie misses you" "You don't visit her enough" blah blah...

Shelby must be the evil pet name. My Shelby is the most evil I've ever had. But she's really sweet to us of course -- just tried to kill most strange men and still is not a huge fan of kids -- I think b/c she's afraid of them.
