Anyone else have a toddler who had tubes in their ears? My DC had tubes about a month ago, due to chronic ear infections which impacted his speech and walking. Any idea when improvements were made with talking and/or walking? Thanks,
no direct experience here, but my old boss had them as a child, then had them reinserted as a teen and they completely fixed his ear infections. Hope it works for your dc!
DS just got his tubes today! I can't say yet how they are going to affect him, obviously. But it is supposed to help with their hearing and balance, and of course cut out the ear infections.
DD got tubes put in on Dec 23. She had a double ear infection at the 2 week follow up but hasn't had any problems since then. It was a few days after the follow up that I really noticed her speech improving.
I will say that it's SO much easier and more efficient to treat an ear infection when you have tubes. You just use the drops and, when there is an infection, you'll see the puss and stuff coming out of the ear.
The ENT told me that it's still pretty typical for a toddler to get 1-2 ear infections per year, even with tubes.
Our DD had tubes put in at 8 months due to chronic infections. Her balance improved almost right way, speech is definately improved (just got rid of the pacifier a couple of weeks ago...that helped too). DD walked at 10 months, so I don't know how much the increase in balance had to do with it.....We have had 3 infections since the tubes, but she doesn't suffer nearly as much and it's much easier to treat with the drops vs. 10 days of antibiotics. GL!
