You know what's funny. I am into buying expensive bags but would never buy an expensive diaper bag. I guess cause I know it's going to get beat up more than a purse would. I just got a amy coe from Babies R Us and am happy with that/
If you can afford it, I understand a nice one that is classy and looks like a purse. But I don't get spending gobs of money on hideous petunia picklebottom bags or that scary optic one from Coach. If its ugly, its ugly. It doesn't matter how much it cost.
I have wanted a coach bag for a while so now I can finally justify it to DH that it will have multiple uses. Also, I have gone through 3 not so cheap (i.e. $60) diaper bags in the past 10 months, so I really could have justified one really nice expensive one by now.
I was never that in to expensive bags until my SILs bought me a Coach bag for my birthday. It has outlasted every other bag I've ever had; it still looks practically brand new over a year later.
That being said, I still don't understand spending a ton of money on a bag you're going to carry poopy diapers and whatnot in. To each their own I suppose...
i spend alot on my purses and i will spend alot on my diaper bag. i have to carry that sucker around for at least 2 years, and probally with other children.
ps-petunia bags kick ass, i wanted one before i even knew they were expensive/trendy
I've carried coach bags for years and have always thought they were really good quality, I got a coach diaper bag because I wanted one that looked more like a purse than a diaper bag and would be good quality
I'm addicted to my Kate Spades. They last forever and if anything ever breaks or it gets dirty, I just send it in and it comes back perfect, never any charge. Plus, they are so classic. So my diaper bag is also a Kate Spade, it was about $270, but I got it for $110, so that's not bad at all. And its treated to resist stains and can be wiped right off if I spill something. Totally worth the money!
I had a plain black backpack for DS. I loved it, and still use it for day outings.
This time, though, I *DO* want an brand name diaper bag. I don't get it. I usually buy purses from Marshall's clearance rack - Nine West is as fancy as I get. Splurging like this is NOT my style.
I don't treat myself much, and don't get much time to myself either. Since I still use my cheap bag 3 1/2 years later, I figure I'll get my money's worth out of this. I can rationalize getting an expensive bag, but that doesn't mean I quite understand it!
Price is relative- When my first 2 babies were born, $40 would have been alot for me to spend on a diaper bag! Nowadays, I expect to look for a diaper bag in the $100 range.
That being said- I purchased 2 bags when my 1 1/2 yr old son was born. One is a Vera Bradley @$90 + acouple matching sccessories. Along with that one I bought a Kathy Van Zeeland bag at BRU that came with all sorts of accessories and cost only $50. I use the Kathy when Vera is in the wash or if I am going somewhere I am afraid Vera will get dirty (like Disneyworld or the beach)
My dream diaper bag would be a Coach...

DS is almost 2y/o and i have never once had to put a poopy or pee diaper IN my bag... fyi.
I have a couple expensive bags and some really cheap ones- that I love equally... I say- get a bag you love- expensive or not- b/c you are going to take it everywhere and you will rarely use your own purse again.
I could never find a cheap diaper bag that I liked...I could never imagine myself carrying any of those. DH bought me a Burberry diaper bag for xmas and I LOVE it. It's beautiful. I think it's worth it if it makes you happy

LOL, I agree! I don't get the obsession with Petunia Picklebottom bags either!
I think diaper bags have come a long way. I believe there was a time when the majority of diaper bags all had kid/baby stuff on them. I can't imagine having to carry around a Winnie the Pooh/Mickey Mouse bag. It's nice to see you can get a plain black diaper bag for a reasonable price at BRU!
I have 2 Kate Spade diaper bags. DH got me one for Christmas (he picked it out all on his own and I was totally surprised) and the other one is a gift from a friend. I like designer bags (and jeans, and shoes...). I don't EVER plan on putting a soiled diaper in the bag...that's what they make trash cans for. Both of the bags are really easy to clean out if there are spills in them and they both seem really durable.

Well, I carry nice purses (mostly Coach) and will treat myself to a new purse 1-2 times a year. I usually get them at the outlets to save some money but spending $200 on a new purse is my one splurge. I don't wear designer jeans, spend a lot on hair or makeup or drive a fancy car. I just really like a nice bag. So, that being said, I did get a diaper bag for $175. It was my Christmas present from DH. While he doesn't understand the whole purse thing he knows it makes me happy and we can afford it so that's all that matters. Everyone has different priorities and things that make them happy so to each their own.
I have one for DD that was about 230. She's 4 and I still use it for the car. I would always buy a cute tote or something of the sort to use as diaper bags for smaller trips.
I have to admit that I'm an addict when it comes to picking up expensive purses. But I have to say, for the 5 years that I've been picking up Coach and Burberry bags, I've only had to replace one. I wore the sh!t out of that one. The rest look barely used and I expect that they'll stay that way for a long time.
When it came time to buy a diaper bag, I went with the PPB boxy backpack (in the wipable fabric) and the touring tote in black because I want them to last. I won't have to replace them because they are built like freaking tanks and I think they are super cute.
I will admit, I did look around to see if Harajuku Lovers put out a diaper bag but honestly I could not fathom spending alot of money on a bag. The diaper bag I picked out is about $23. But I did receive three HL bags as a gift a few years ago and I still adore them to this day.

What's expensive?
My Skip Hop bag ran me $89 and I thought that was at the top of what I would pay for a diaper bag.
I'll admit though that I would pay more for a kick a$$ purse...

I don't plan on it either, but you just never know.
