DD had a rash all over her stomach this morning. It looked like tiny red pimples all over, but it didn't itch.
The problem is that today is one of the two days I work, and MIL is watching her at my house. I'm not an alarmist, so I asked her to keep an eye on it to see if it got worse or started to bother her as the day went on, but I think MIL thought I should have taken DD to the pedi (though of course she wouldn't have told me so).
What would you have done?
Re: Should I have brought DD to the pedi?
Did the rash go away?
If it were me, I'd probably call the nurse line at the pedi and ask what they wanted me to do. As long as they don't think it's serious but don't think it's going to go away on its own, I'd make the appt for after work or your next day off.
have you changed detergant or soaps recently? It could even be dry skin.
It just showed up this morning and didn't go away before I left for work. I did call the pedi to ask if it was worth bringing her in, but the nurse said it was up to me.
I haven't given DD any new foods or used any new products, so I don't think it's an allergic reaction. She did have her first fever earlier this week, so it could be related to that.

Wait, she did have a fever on Monday and Tuesday, but it was gone yesterday and the rash appeared today. Now you have me freaked out!
could just be roseola... viral funk that kids get where they get a moderate to high fever for 1-3 days, it disappears and then 2 or 3 days later they develop a rash. by the time the rash pops up, it's no longer contagious. the rash is not bothersome.. there's nothing they do for it.
I'd say if it sticks around for more than 3 or 4 days or if she pops back up with a fever or new symptoms, call, otherwise, I'd just watch it. but that's me. my kids got fifths dz and I didn't bother calling. there's nothing they do for viral rashes usually.
DD had a virus and a fever and the dr said that its really common for kids to get a rash after the fever breaks and the virus has run its course. The didn't give her anything for it and said it could only fade on its own. It was all over her body though and it did look like little red bumps.
Someone mentioned fifths disease and that is harmless to children but very dangerous for pregnant women. My SIL just went through this with her 4 year old and she was 30 weeks pg when he broke out. She tested positive for the virus and had to see a specialist twice a week and they delivered the baby early to avoid complications.
yes, with fifths.. they get a slapped cheek look (red cheeks), then a lacy rash. I noticed the rash more than anything b/c it was wintertime. didn't think of the rosy cheeks. but the rash, I noticed when they got out of the tub. (a warm bath will make the rash look worse, so don't freak out if you re-notice it again or it looks worse tonight after her bath.) fifths can be dangerous for pg women (really the fetus) and for anyone with chronic anemia or lowered immune system.
does she go to daycare ever? some daycares will want a note to return. that's if she's going back with the rash or if they sent her home for it.
Do you mean my DD? She's never been to daycare.
It does sound like it might be roseola, but I did make a pedi appointment for tomorrow to be safe. My poor baby. She's teething too, so it's been a rough couple of days (and nights!) for both of us.
Thanks everyone for the help!
I was going to say it could be Roseola! DD had roseola and by the time the rash came it was over. Also, if it is on the palms of her hands or the bottoms of her feet it could be Hand, Foot and Mouth disease. My pedi says there are about 50 different ones and that they all just have to run their course. Treat the symptoms like fever with motrin/tylenol and wait. GL!
