Babies: 9 - 12 Months

how often does your child poop?

Brady poops seriously like 5-6 times a day.  His poor little butt is always red, and needless to say we have stocked up on the diaper rash cream.  Is this normal, or does my kid just go a lot?!

Re: how often does your child poop?

  • hmmm, sounds like a lot. For the last month or so, DD only goes 1-2 times a day. 2 is actually unusual now.

  • Normally she poops about once a day. The last two days we have had issues and it has been 3-4 times a day. Her poor little butt is all red.
  • Usually once per day. Is Brady breastfed or formula fed? You might also consider giving him a probiotic supplement. It helped a lot with ds's regularity.

  • for sure every other day but sometimes once a day

  • have you just started solids like baby food or table food?  With baby food it goes thru the system very quickly when our DS started or was on baby he would literally poop 5- 10 times a day no exaggeration.  Once he started table foods at 8m like us it takes a while to work thru the digestive system so now he does his poop in the morning as soon as he wakes.  We average 1 -2 times a day.
  • Not only are we secretly related, our babies must be calling each other as well.  We never.ever.not.once went a whole day without at LEAST 2-3 poops.  I can count on one hand how many times he's gone through the night without pooping.

  • Within this last week we have gone from once every 4 or 5 days to everyday.  I cannot imagine 5-6 times a day.

Once a day vexes me.  5-6 times per day would make me grouchy :)

  • DD usually went once a day. Since starting solids, she now goes 2-4 times  a day.
  • Once or twice a day

He is bf, but does get one formula bottle (I dont produce enough at night anymore for him).  Maybe I will try the probiotic?

  • Usually twice a day, sometimes just once though.

Brady will wake up early in the morning, poop, then fall back to sleep.  I have a very odd child.

  • Usually about 3 times a day. Sometimes more. She's a really good pooper. lol.

Michael does the exact same thing.  He's up between 4-5 because he's got a dirty butt and then he goes back to sleep.

  • FWIW - I did bring this up to my pedi and she didn't seems too concerned.

  • 2-3 times a day.  Once in a while, he'll go 4 or 5 times...but that's rare.  He's FF.  But it was the same amount when he was getting BM too.

Maybe try putting some Vaseline on his bum after diaper changes?  I've found that really helps when Ben gets red from going a lot.

  • Between 1-4 times a day.  I think it depends on her BF/FF/Solids mix and how it hits her tum-tum.
  • 4-6 times/day.  Her poor butt is red too.  The pedi gave her iron since her level was low and she said she would probably poop less and I said good since she goes 5 times a day.  She didn't seem concerned.
  • DS usually goes once a day, but lately he has been going twice and goes like clockwork.  Always first thing in the morning and right before bed.
  • DD  usually just goes once a day - some days she'll go twice. 5-6 times seems like a lot to me.
  • 1 time for sure.  Some times he will go 2 times a day.

  • If something goes in, something comes out.  So he goes about 4-6 times a day.  Pedi doesn't think it is a big deal.
  • Anywhere from 4-6 times a day on average but we've never had any issue with her bottom becoming red/sore/irritated. Her frequent poops don't seem to bother her at all.?

FWIW, my older ds was also a frequent pooper. Even now at 4 y/o he still is a very faithful 3 times a day pooping kid, LOL. I've always just assumed it's because they both eat lots of fruit, veggies, beans and other sources of fiber. ?

    ?

  • she's been going once a day for a while now, except when she's teething, then all bets are off...
  • DS usually goes about 3-5 times a day.

  • when she just had formula and b/m it was only once every other to two days.   Now that she gets 'food' it's usually about twice a day, more if prunes were on the menu!

  • 2-3x/day.  Have you started solids yet?  That cut down DD's pooping a lot, after 5-6 wks.
  • Once every other day to every 3 days. Until solids she was going 2 times a day but once I started solids it slowed to every couple of days.
  • That seems like a lot to me.  DD goes about 1-2 times per day but they are BIG ones.
