When to find peditrician?

I would assume that this is something you have to do before birth as most babies have to see their pedi within the first few days of being home, but is this something I need to do now? 
TTC#1 since Feb 07 with PCOS and mild MFI

    My OB told me to find one before the baby comes and they'll come see the baby at the hospital.  I asked my friends for recommendations because I wanted someone close to home.  I'm meeting with one next week.  I did feel silly calling to make an appointment when I don't even have a baby yet but the receptionist was really nice.

    I interviewed pedi's (it's usually free and they called it a prenatal appt.).  I asked everyone!  We moved here, so I wasn't sure.  I asked my OB, neighbors, friends, co-workers, everyone.  I looked crazy.  Even the Fed Ex guy's whose wife was a nurse!  I heard the same office 100X's but didn't get a good vibe.  One office that was only suggested by one person was the one we felt most comfortable with.  The Dr. was great, the office was great.  Everyone was super friendly.  The were really straight forward.  Plus they had visiting rights at our hospital so they were able to see DD from day one!  Also, I posted on my local board and that where someone suggested the office we LOVE!

    since i'm not really from the area i asked the ladies on my local board.  DH and i actually are going tomorrow to visit our first pedi.  hopefully we'll like the place and we'll only have to go to the one.

    I started thinking about this when I was about 7 months pg.  I asked friends for recommendations, and I actually LOVED the first one I met (still do), so I only interviewed her practice.  I called them up and told them I was expecting and wanted to interview them, and they set me up with someone in the office who handles these.  She answered all of my questions, and then I was able to quickly meet with the docs in the practice.  All I had to do to "choose" her as Ava's pedi was put her name on the forms at the hospital -- she came by the hospital when Ava was one and two days old for quick checkups.
