Mine share (well, technically share - because it always seems like one of them is in our bed at some point). DS was 2 1/2 (almost) when DD was born. She was in our room for a few months and then she went to a crib and he went to a toddler bed. She just about never wakes him up, but if he wakes up (now, it's really only to pp on the potty), he may wake her- she's just a lighter sleeper.
We're doing it because the other option would be to move him downstairs and we're just not ready for him to be on the main floor while we're not.
I know EmilieMadison's kids share a room, but they are like 3 years apart. I think it works pretty well for them. Ours will share a room when #2 arrives, but they will also be about 3 years apart. My sister and I are 11 months apart and we shared a room until I was 11, it worked fine when we were young/babies.
My girls will be sharing. If I were having a boy they wouldn't but since I am having another girl they will be. DD doesn't sleep in her room half the time, and she doesn't have any toys in there so it would be pointless to take up 2 rooms. My sister and I shared a room when we were little and it was fun, and comforting! : )
Our children are 4 months apart and we tried for about 6 months to get them to share a room before giving up. We are in a two bedroom, but we finally just moved my son's crib into our room.
My DS sleeps through anything, but he needs it quiet and relaxing to fall asleep. My DD is a super light sleeper and any tiny sound wakes her up, plus she needs a few minutes of fussing and/or playing in her crib to wind down before falling asleep. We would put my DD down, but then my DS wouldn't fall asleep. Or we would put my DS down first, but then we could get my DD down, but she wouldn't stay asleep if my DS even rolled over in his sleep.
We were all miserable. I think if they're personalities/sleep habits were more similar or if they were further apart in age then it might have worked.
I only have one child, but my sister and I are 16 months apart and my brother is only 1.5 years younger than my sister.
When my sister was born, she slept in a bassinet in my parents' bedroom until she was about 4 months old, then she and I shared a room. When my brother was born, he slept in my parents' room until he was about 6 months old. When he stopped sleeping in my parents' room, all three of us shared a room until I was 9 years old.
