Sorry, but I feel like I need to vent. I stupidly tested yesterday at 12dpo and of course got a bfn. I had promised myself I wouldn't test until AF was late but CVS had tests on sale. Then I woke up this morning to a nice temp drop which means AF should be here soon. As I'm driving into work this morning I get rear ended and had to deal with all of the insurance stuff and with getting a rental car. I have a bad back to begin with and I'm a bit sore now. I have an appt with the dr this afternoon to make sure nothing's wrong. Additionally DH is out of town until next Tuesday so he's not here in person to lend support, though he's been great over the phone.
We're now moving onto the cycle where the Dr. wants to look at any potential problems. DH gave his smaple last week for a SA and we should get the results by the end of this week. I'll do a clomid challenge to check my egg reserves. B/W on cd 3, clomid on CD 5-9 and more b/w on cd 10. Not looking forward to this at all, but hopefully it will give us some answers either way.
Any advice on side effects with the clomid would be apprecated. Thanks for the ear.
Re: Bad day (vent kind of long)
You might have to do an HSG as well, to check if your tubes are open. The bad news is it hurts, the good news is some women get pg right after the HSG b/c it kind of "flushes" things down there. I got all the fertility tests done after 8 cycles TTC and then decided to wait on the Clomid for a while. Luckily I got pg naturally on the 11th cycle (knock on wood) but I just wanted to give DH and I more time to try on our own before I started IF treatments. Some people are more aggressive and start sooner. The point is, it might still happen naturally for you. I think that unless there are physical issues, it does take a lot longer to conceive for women over 35. But it doesn't mean it won't happen!
Good luck with the testing and your plans. Keep your chin up!
Thank you so much!! I did have an HSG done a few months ago (I went to a specialist because of a potential autoimmune problem who ordered the HSG) and was one of the lucky ones who didn't have any pain and my tubes were clear. I won't go on clomid for fertility because I already O on my own (according to my temps) just to test my FSH levels.
I'm glad to hear that you and your DH were successful on your own. GL and H&H!
I just did the Clomid challenge last month, and had done clomid 2 other times. I was lucky with little to no side effects - a few hot flashes, a mood change or two (that I will blame on the Clomid, but really could have been anything - they weren't bad) and that was all. I did them at night the first 2 times, but for the challenge they told me to take it in the morning, and no change in side effects.
It is a pain, but the test results give a good indication of your eggs - so it is worth it IMO. Good luck - let me know if you have other questions.
