So, DD got the stomach flu. It started with just vomitting sun night. Monday she was fine. Yesterday, she starts with diarrhea. We are giving her a super bland diet and pedialyte and water. Bc of the pooping, she has the most horrible case of diaper rash I've ever seen. Her parts are blood red. On her last diaper change, it took me 15 minutes of coaxing, her screaming and me crying just to get her diaper back on.
What do I do now? I think I just need a hug.
Re: Pulling my hair out...
Try to use a washcloth to clean her instead of wipes. They can make the rash sting even more, even if they are the frangrance free type. GL...I know this must be really tough for both of you!
Great minds think a like!
I think it does, not like a wipe would but DD had always kind of yanked her butt up a little when I put it on (and I let it warm up some) before I discovered the miracle mixture. It may not be stinging your baby, I haven't actually put desitin on my own butt to tell you for sure
Don't feel bad, please God don't feel bad. It's hard enough dealing with a sick little one.
Hope things get better!
Our pedi gave us a prescription diaper cream once, too, when DS had a horrible diarrhea diaper rash one time. He told us that diaper creams don't get absorbed by the skin, that they only act as a barrier. He tells us that the regular Deistin...the old-fashioned really thick white stuff...is just about as good as you can get, though. He tells us to smother as much as we can on him, "Like your icing a cake." Since it doesn't absorb into the skin, it's okay. You are trying to form a barrier and protect that skin from coming in contact with the stool. Ditto about what pp have said about using a cloth instead of wipes, too.
((hugs)) I know those diaper changes are hard when they have bad diaper rash. The screaming and kicking and crying....oy! I hope DC gets better soon!
