New York Babies

If you work in NYC, but live in NJ...

I currently work full time in Midtown and live in Central NJ.  I'm 32 weeks pregnant and am thinking of maybe cutting my hours soon.

If you work in NYC, but live in NJ...did you make it to the end of your pregnancy working full time or did you have to stop early or cut hours?

TYIA!

  • I live in NJ and work in midtown as well. I am 31 weeks and as of last week I had to stop taking the train. The switching and the subway and all the walking got to be too much, especially at the end of the day. As of next week I am going to be working one day a week from home. I'm trying to make it as long as possible.

  • My son is a year and a half; however, during my pregnancy I was also working in midtown oddly enough. To get to 49th street; I had to take the bus to the path station then the path train to 33rd and then the metro to Rockerfeller Center. Unfortnately, due to all the stress of traveling AND my job, I was placed on bedrest at 8 months. If I could go back, I would have just asked to go in an hour later and possibly leave an hour earlier to beat the rush. I definitely would make that suggestion. It's so hard communting especially if there are delays and the train/bus is crowded etc.  It's best to try to avoid them at all cost.
  • Hi there -?

I'm new here, and have a 15 month old son. ?I worked downtown and commuted from Central Jersey up until 2 wks before my due date. ?After my son was born, I chose to find a job closer to home because I didn't want to be that far away from him. ?Now I'm home with him full time - so a lot has changed in the past year!

My advice, is to listen to your body and see what your doctor says. ?Some women can go right up to the end (which I think is kinda nuts) and others stop sooner. ?Do you work at the type of job that will allow you to work from home? ?Maybe you can start working from home 1 or 2 days a wk so you can rest a bit. ?Then eventually, work from home for the last couple of weeks? ?That's what I did. ?I knew it was time to stop getting on the bus in the morning when people would look at me as if I was going to pop at any minute and didn't want me to sit with them!

    Good Luck! :)
