amoxcillian side effects

hi ladies!  natalie was placed on a 10 day supply of amoxicillin clavulanate for a start of an ear affection.  She is about 6 days into it and today, she started getting this severe diaper rash.  we were warned it would caused diaherra, but would the diaper rash be caused by this too?  I feel so bad for her! Any other mom's experience this?  Thanks ladies?

Re: amoxcillian side effects

  • Elijah ended up getting a full body rash from the amoxicillian. ?We discovered he had and allergic reaction to it. ?Maybe allergic to it, so at this time, he can't use penicillin products. If it spreads I'd call your doctor so they can take a look at it to verify.

  • I remember Nina being on an antibiotic once (for what and what exactly is was I can't remember), but it gave her a severe diaper rash.  I think I was told or read somewhere that this is common in babies on antibiotics.  To tell the truth, I think I pulled her off the medicine and worked on getting her butt healed.  It was to the point where she screamed if you tried to clean her butt...and in the long run, seemed the more pressing of issues at the time.

Have you tried using different types of diaper rash cream?  I forget what worked best, but really I used more of a variety of things on her rather than one particular kind.

  • I'm allergic to it and I get a rash like that but it's on my belly. As long as it's only her diaper area and doesnt get worse I wouldn't worry about it.
  • Poor Natalie:( That's the worst! Amelia gets a bad diaper rash any time she has diarrhea - I think it's just that it's so wet and acidic sitting on their poor little skin:( Are you slathering her like crazy with diaper cream?? If you can at least create a thick barrier between her skin and the poop, it might at least help to start it healing. I hope it gets better so quickly!!
  • I definitely recommend Triple Paste diaper rash cream for the really bad cases when it's painful! Susanna had diarrea for a week and it was so sore and red. This was the only kind that worked to protect her bum and clear it up!  It's not cheap, but it's worth it!
  • Thanks ladies!  It is definitly just staying in her diaper area and I will have to go look for some of the ther creams...i am using destine now but maybe something thicker will be better :)
