Nurseries and Baby Gear

So do I really need the crib quilt?

We want to wait until we know the sex to buy any nursery stuff, but I'm looking at bedding sets now. Do I really need the matching crib quilt? Most people I know have hardly ever used theirs. What are you ladies getting?

Re: So do I really need the crib quilt?

  • we use our every night now that dd is older..i think we started using it last winter when she turned 1

  • DD is 22 months and we never have used it. Don't bother if you don't have to buy a set.
  • We NEVER used ours but it looked nice hanging over the side of the crib.
  • We ended up not going with a bedding set because the quilt was all we might use!  We would not use the bumper, I am not a fan of diaper stackers and we already have curtains, so the valance was a waste.  I just wish there was a way to get just the quilt from a bedding set

  • I am probably going to buy one because I'm going to buy a convertible crib.  Then I can use it as the toddler comforter and not have to change the entire nursery.

  • We didn't buy one for DD and never missed it. We did order one for DS (it came as part of a set) and we have never used it.  It looks cute slung over the glider though.

  • I didn't bother with the crib quilt. I've been told not to use one by our NICU nurses until at least 1. By then, I wouldn't want the same bedding as I would have wanted for my newborn. My little guy just sleeps in a miracle blanket, or if it's feeling cool, then a small loose baby blanket at his waist down.
  • DD has used her for a year and I love it because it is so soft. She has two other ones that she also likes.

It's not a big deal if you don't have one.

  • I wound up getting a Baby Star bumper, fitted sheet and skirt off of mamabargains.com.  Orginally I was going to get a set, but I kepet hearing what a waste it was and deep down I didn't want every little thing matching.
  • we have never used it in the crib- only have it laying over the recliner chair in his room. Total waste of money, IMO.
  • We just got sheets and the bumper -- when it gets colder out, I just plan on putting them in sleep sacks.
