Multiples

Do you agree with this statement?

My OB continually tells me that any movement is ok and I shouldn't be trying to differentiate between the 2 because they can continually change position.  Do you agree with that based on what your OB has told you?

Re: Do you agree with this statement?

  • i know baby A is a lot closer to the "outside" of my belly so i feel him more than b, who is deeper in my abdomen.... as far as them changing sides - i asked about this before and most people said it can't happen if you have 2 sacs, placentas, cords, etc.... ?

granted- in that tight space- unless you feel something WAY on one side or the other it would be hard to really know which baby it was.

i know when i was pg with DS i rarely could tell what part of him was poking me.

Hey!  I've been thinking about you!  How are your gorgeous babies doing?  I asked him about that today and he said any movement is movement and as long as the movement doesn't seem to be too changed or decreased than I shouldn't worry.  IDK....

  • My OB said (re: kick counts) that normally he wants to see 10 movements (any kick, flutter, twist, turn) in 2 hours.  Since there's 2, he wants there to be 20 movements.  He said that it would be great if I can distinguish between them, but if not, its not a big deal.
  • I don't know if they can change position entirely, but I was horrible at distinguishing btwn the two because one was on the left and the other constantly switched from being on the right to being across the top.  When she was across the top, there were 4 hands and two feet on one side so it seemed like only one baby was moving!

I like this idea.  It gives me something to go with.  I definitely have 20 movements in 2 hours so I'll keep that in mind as a reassurance for myself.  Thanks!

  • Yup - Max started off as the busy baby but by the end, I didn't feel him much b/c he was smoooshed b/t my pelvis and Luke.
  • Yes- I could not figure out who was who and I quit trying after a while.
  • Hmmm...to me that does not make much since.  My OB always told me to really try to figure out which baby was moving and that if I had any doubt he would have me come in and hook me up to the monitors.
  • For me, I only feel Twin A because he has a posterior placenta so his kicks are right up against my belly.  I never feel Twin B because his placenta is anterior so he's kicking the placenta rather than my belly directly.  I talked t the doc about this today and she said this was normal...as long as I was feeling movement, she wasn't concerned.

  • Yes. My girls didn't really change sides, but they were flipping end over end right up until 36w. So, I was pretty sure most of the movement was Molly, but when it was down the middle, it was hard to tell.

  • If they have two different placentas, they can't change place. The placentas are fixed to your uterus.   However, they definitely can move around within that spot, so they may be facing forward one day, to the back another, breech then flip transverse, etc.  By 32 weeks though, I could definitely tell which baby was moving and what position they were in by where I felt movements.  For instance, I knew my girl was breech because I could feel her fluttering kicks in  my crotch, etc.

But I could see how it would be really hard to count.

  • They asked me to try to track both if I could but if I couldn't tell not to worry about it.
