Did/will you get tested for CF?

Re: Did/will you get tested for CF?

  • I did - it was in the laundry list of things they tested my blood for at my first apt.

  • I did, only because my cousin and her husband carry the genes. Both of their children have it..

  • Yup. I want as much info as I can get!
  • They tested me when I went in for my preconception counseling. ?One less thing to worry about since it was negative :)
  • So was it an option for you?  Or did they just do it?  Apparently we have to make the decision.
  • I will be tested.   Both my paternal aunt and her husband carried the gene.  My cousin Shaun had Cystic Fibrosis.  They were heavily involved with the CF Foundation.  He lived until he was 15.

  • It was an option & we choose to do it. My husband's 1/2 sister is a carrier & we wanted to error on the side of caution. This week we have the NT scan.
  • I am so sorry to hear that.. My cousins are almost 1 and 3..

I heard the age now a day is they can live to be 40 years old?

There is no law saying you have to get tested for anything. But certain things they have to recommend, strongly, to get tested for, like in NYS its the law to recommend an AIDS test. I honestly thought it was mandatory to actually get the test too, but then my sis clarified it for me.

So, for us, the doc was just like "We'll test you for a,b,c,etc." and we were like "ok!". she didn't really leave it open ended. I decided though, to test for anything my doc suggests that is covered by my insurance - why not?

  • I think it is routine with my OB.  I had it done when I had my first round of bloodwork.
  • I did. Gave me one less thing to be worried about. Now I can concentrate on worrying about my NT Scan next week...lol
  • I was asked by my OB/GYN if I would be interested. I was tested and it came back negative I just want to be as prepared as possible.
  • it was part of my first appt b/w. i could have said no, but what the heck. it's just another test, they were already digging in my veins.
  • I was tested at my first OB appointment.  I was told it was optional, and even though there is no family history none of my family has ever been tested either.  DH doesn't know who his birth father is, so thats a wild card.  Add to that the fact that my best friend growing up had CF and died when we were 9 . . . I wanted the test the second I found out it was available.
