Dresser Topper Changing Table?

We have a dresser that we want to use in the nursery (it's a wide dresser) and we would like to use the top as a changing table.  How do we do this?  Do we need to buy a topper that somehow anchors to the existing dresser?  We registered for the 3-sided contour changing pad but do we need a separate wooden topper or something?  And where would we find one?  Help!  I'm clueless!

Re: Dresser Topper Changing Table?

  • we literally just threw the changing pad on top of the dresser. mind you, as soon as jack did more than just lie flat on his back, we started changing him on the floor.?

  • The changing pad we bought for our dresser top came with a strap to secure to the dresser.  DH already secured it and although you can turn the changing pad upwards it won't move side to side and if the baby's on it it won't move upwards either. I think I've also heard of some adhesive strips though but that may ruin the dresser.

  • We're planning on doing the same as MC.  I haven't gotten the changing pad yet, so I'm not sure what the bottom looks like but I think I remember someone saying that you can put that skid-resistant shelf paper down between the dresser and the pad to help with the slipping and sliding.  Though it probably won't do much good when they get super squirmy/mobile.
  • We threw it on top of the dresser and secured it with the strap.  The only issue we've had is that her weight has caused the drawers to stick a bit when opening and closing. I am sure we can fix it but it's gotten worse the longer we've used it on the dresser.

  • We bought a "changer/dresser" combo with our furniture and it's really just a dresser. We're planning on just putting the pad on top of it also.
  • We put the pad right on top of the dresser with that no-skid shelf paper underneath.  We've had no issues and still change her on the changing table multiple times/day and she's 11 months old.  (She's not a super wiggly baby however.)

  • We are planning on using the skid resistant shelf paper to hold the changing pad down however, I have seen the wood piece you can buy to put on top of a regular dresser to create a changing table topper. Restoration Hardware sells their separate from the dresser...

  • we change him on top of his low dresser in his room and on the bathroom counter. Both in a contoured pad and neither are secured. Only this week when I watched him roll over (while strapped in) did I decide I can't leave him there and go to the bathroom :)

  • We used the non-skid stuff under the pad since we didn't want to screw anything into our furniture.

Ditto this and DS is 19 months old. I don't know how his nanny did it, but even when he did go through his squirmy, wiggly phase, she managed to teach him to behave up there and we're still able to change him on his changing pad on the dresser. Thank goodness too, with this big ole pg belly. :-)

Can't wait to see pics of your nursery!
