My Labor Story....

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back on here (and thanks Gena for posting for me).  Life is busy with a newborn and DH just went back to work today.

I'll try to make this short since the baby is sleeping (for who knows how long..lol)

I had to be induced due to low amniotic fluid last wednesday at 8pm.  I checked into the hospital at 8, and had to be placed on cervadil (sp?). I came in at 1cm and 80% effaced and she wasn't at a station yet. I think she would have come late if it was up to her.  At 11 they started the cervadil and it made me have menstrual like contractions.  Not to bad but I couldn't sleep the whole night. I sent DH home at 3am to get some sleep.  At 8am the doctor came in and checked me...the cervadil was a complete waste of time and I was the same as when I had walked in the night before. Also, the whole night the baby's heartbeat dropped from 120-140 down to 88 and it scared the nurses. I was given Ambien to sleep but that didn't work either.

At 8am the doctor broke my water and we found out that Madison had her first bowel movement inside of me and it came out with the water. She was under stress and they needed to get her out asap. The doctor let me labor on my own until 11am and at that point I was going to have a c-section.  I got an epidural at around 9-10 since the contractions were getting painful and DH was back at the hospital around 7:30 am so he was helping me concentrate and get through them.  The epidural lady was a *** (I wasn't arching my spine, I wasn't doing this, etc (but the nurse there said I did everything fine) and finally I got some relief. I could still feel every contraction but it was better than it was without the epi.

The doctor came in at 11am and to her suprise I was 7 cm and 100% effaced.  I was aloud to labor again on my own until 12:30 when I reached 10cm and was then pushing until she was born at 1:11 p.m. She also had the cord around her neck at birth (which is why they said she stayed at 6 lbs, but she scored a 9 on her apgar and has no signs of jauimagendice).

I did have an episitomy but I was walking around by 3pm the same day like I was at home. No real pain at all and I had family at the hospital and was able to see everyone and did not feel overwhelmed.  They offered me percocet/darvacet, etc but I have just been taking some advil and I'm surprised with how good I have been feeling. I was scared with the episitomy and recovery but it is like everything is normal and I can do everything I want/need to and feel good.

here she is....Madison Riley.  She is beautiful and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.  For those that are pregnant that are ready this labor isn't as bad or as scary as I thought it would be. For the Mom's I am sure you know the joy I feel and how happy she makes us.  My husband has fallen in love with her (just as I suspected) and she has brought us so much joy already.  She is a very good, alert baby that loves to stay up at night..lol

Thanks to everyone for all the support and help that you have given me over the last 9 months!
