Ryan Lee was born 3 weeks early on Sunday morning at 7:39am weighing in at 7lbs, 4oz. He's got dark dark hair and blue eyes and a pretty olive complexion. We don't have a length yet.
He had some fluid in his lungs, so 30min after birth he was whisked away to the NICU and unfortunately he's been here ever since. The fluid worked its way out on its own but at about 1:30am this morning, they found a significant amount of bright red blood in his diaper/stool. So the doctors have been running tests all day and have not been finding anything conclusive. He's perfect and healthy in every other way now, except for this. The last test they are doing before getting more evasive is comparing the blood to my blood - its possible he ingested some of it on his way out. Unlikely, but possible. They couriered the test to another hospital and we're awaiting results. Please pray for us that this is indeed what the problem is. The doctor that just came on duty said that we may have to move to Children's Hospital if they can't find an answer.
I have been discharged from the maternity center and am now staying with the little guy. DH is with Payton.
Now for the entertaining Birth story:
Sat 1/17, 11pm. You couldn't have paid me enough money to believe I would have a baby the next morning. Went to bed.
Sun 1/18, 2:30am. Payton awakes. DH was at work so I got up and changed her diaper, gave her a sippy and put her back to bed. Went to the bathroom and had lost my MP. Feeling crampy. Went back to bed. Layed there for an hour not happy - crampy and uncomfortable.
3:30am - got up and started walking around hoping cramps would go away. Cleaned up a little, paced the house for the most part.
4:30am - turned on tivo and the laptop to time cramps/contractions on contractionmaster.com - did this for an hour. They were consistantly 2-3mins apart, 30sec each. Hmmmm...
5:30am - called DH at work, told him to come home. Even if this wasn't labor, I wanted to get checked. Called the hospital, they looked at my history and told me to get in there ASAP, lol And if I felt like I needed to push, call 911! thanks, my DH is an EMT. haha Called my mom to have her come watch Miss P.
6:15, mom and DH show up, contractions definitely stronger but I'm perfectly fine between them and can still kinda talk through each contraction.
6:30 get to hospital, they are waiting for me and had room ready. No triage. They get me changed into a gown and settled in bed and check me - 6CM dilated! I'm staying. Contractions are much much stronger at this point. Want an epidural so they try to start an IV.
7:15ish? I'm on my side, they check me - fully dilated and she says that "he's right there, you're not getting an epidural, we will coach you through it. You can do it." NOT AGAIN!!! She also said that if I wanted to push, I could - it'd probably feel good. With the next contraction, I wanted to push and did. Doc wanted to check again and in the process broke my water. STRONG CONTRACTION - I push. She says I need to lay on my back at this point -- baby is coming out. They help me roll onto my back, another strong contraction wave takes over. She says to pull my legs up and push as hard as I could. His head popped out. I pushed again, the rest of his body came out. They threw him on my chest and I swear I couldn't figure out where he came from - did I really do that in two pushes? lol
Keep you posted with test results and pictures soon. I just want to start our lives as our little family and go home! Ugh.
