Did you wear a fake wedding band?

My hands have swollen past the point that I can wear my wedding band. I have a giant fake diamond that I wear for fun or I wear my grandmother's band for day-to-day. A couple of my friends have commented on this being odd, but I don't want to look like a big, unmarried pregnant lady (and there is nothing wrong with being unmarried- my own mother was- but I'm not and don't want to appear that I am).

Am I the only one who wears a fake while pg?

  • Nope... I did when I was pregnant...  :)

  • nope, I did and still am because I can't get back down to a 5 and 3/4, but refused to cut it since it's a Tacori and there's engraving all around the band.  I got the cheaper Tacori ring for only $50 that looks almost like my real one.

  • I wore my regular bands through out my pregnancy, they always fit.

If they hadn't, I wouldn't have worn a fake.  I never really understood the point of the whole fake ring thing.  I would have worn my rings as a necklace or something.  Or worn a simple silver band.

  • Not at all.  I loved wearing my big honkin cz while pregnant.

  • I wore a fake band with DS. This time around though my set still fits.
  • I tried the rings on a necklace thing and then started getting paranoid about them getting yanked off (thanks to the nurse at my ob's office).

I wear a huge CZ right now when I am out, but just simple cz bands for work.

  • I've worn alternative rings when traveling - if you can't afford to lose it, don't take it kind of thinking.

As you know, I didn't swell. So I made it through with my ring on my finger - but I know you're not jealous b/c you know my lack of swelling wasn't the best thing.

  • I didn't wear a fake wedding rng, but when my hands got too big*, I did wear a gold James Avery ring in place of a wedding ring. It was what DH had gotten me before we were engaged....kinda almost like a promise ring, but not. So it kinda made sense.

*Incidentally, I had to have my wedding ring CUT off because I wasn't able to squish it off and I freaked myself out because I couldn't get it right off....

  • Nope I just walked around with no rings and pregnant with a toddler.  I am sure more than one person thought I was an unwed teenage mother.

  • I wore a plain silver band when my rings no longer fit..
  • I found an eternity band with small diamonds that was just a size larger than my real band, I got a good deal on it so I purchased it incase my band wouldn't fit anymore then I'd just wear that one. But so far my band still fits!

  • Oddly enough I was thinking about this just this morning.  I'm kind of looking forward to shopping for a cheap fake ring.  It'll be like playing dress up!

you might have the same fake as me. mine looks like a knock off Tacori. did you get it at nordstrom?

  • I wore a silver band when my finger got too big.
  • No, I didn't wear a fake ring. My wedding band fit until I was 8 months pg, and by then I was on bedrest so I didn't really care.

  • i wore a fake one, shiny and shaped like a flower. its adjustable, so it worked great when my fingers swelled more towards the end of the day.

I actually saw it on QVC one day because the Tacori guy was on there showing a bunch of rings.  Then I went online and got it there based on reviews.  It's the Tacori Epiphany Diamonique Princess Cut 3 StoneRing for $55! =)  hmmm...I just went on there just now and they have other really cute rings!

  • I think it's very common to not be able to wear your rings during pregnancy. I never had an issue with it though and actually wore them during L&D.
  • With Ellarie I wore a plain band. With Max I didn't even bother.

  • I wore one, and luckily it fits my right ring finger when I'm not pg, so I wear it pretty regularly now.  It's a little white gold band with 12 or so little diamonds in a channel setting.  It says "Mom" on the inside.

  • I stopped wearing my wedding rings maybe the last month or so of my pregnancy with Alex.  Then I just wore another ring I have that is a little bigger.  It isn't diamond, though - just a giant Jade.

With this pregnancy my rings still fit!!

  • My rings fit my entire pregnancy with Orion and so far so good with this one. ?If they didn't I had entertained the thought of wearing a fake one, but I'm probably too lazy to go out and buy one.
  • i had bad swelling, but only on my legs/feet, so my wedding band still fit.

if it hadn't i definately would have worn a temporary band - i probably would have just picked one out from the in law's (one of the perks of having in law's in the jewelry business!) Wink

  • luckily my hands didn't swell to that point.  My e-ring didn't fit though so I only wore my wedding band.  But if my hands did swell that much I would have totally rocked a fake ring.

BTW, I saw yours at the zoo last week and I thought to myself "yowza, V got herself a new bling bling ring!"  I didn't even realize it was fake. Wink

  • I am still wearing mine, but if they got tight I would first switch to my great grandmas ring because it only fits on my middle finger, then get a fake band of some sort. I feel weird without something on my finger.

  • I had to take off my e ring but kept my wedding band, oddly even with pre-e my band fit (now it has a sizer though, might have had something to do with buying it while pg).

I don't think I ever notice if someone is wearing a ring when they're pg, but I would have bought a fake if I needed one. Like you I don't judge if someone is an unwed mom (I could have been), but for some reason for myself I would want something on to show I was married.

yeah, it's pretty real looking! i have a friend who has a super huge diamond and is very "in" to things like that and she even thought it was real. she asked when i got remarried b/c she knew ray didn't buy it for me. LOL

  • When mine got too tight I decided to wear a ring that was my grandma's and was a bit bigger. Nothing flashy.

So far I am still wearing my rings and imagine at this point I won't have to take them off. I can't believe I haven't had any swelling and assumed it had to do with the time of year.

  • With Mia I just wore them on a chain.

This one they still fit, and since I have less than 2 days, I'm guessing I won't have a problem...

  • I've had to take off my wedding band but I can still wear my engagement ring. I'll probably buy a fake ring soon though. I don't want to have to cut it off :(

My reason for buying a fake: it feels so strange without a ring on my left hand...

  • I was able to wear my rings throughout my pregnancy except for a few days here or there when the swelling was really bad. ?I don't think it's weird though to wear a fake band. ?Going and picking out something different to wear for a while kind of sounds like fun.

  • My wedding band became too tight, but my e-ring fit through both pregnancies.  If I was unable to wear them, then yes I would have bought a fake set!

  • I can still wear my rings, but when it gets to the point where I can't, I think I will just get a "cheap" sterling silver band from james avery or something to wear.  I thought about going getting a cheapie fake diamond, but wasnt' sure if that would be weird - as in ppl thinking that is what my real one is?  i guess it doesn't really matter.
