Chicco v. Graco travel system?

So we're debating between the two and I was wondering if anyone had any good or bad reviews of these travel systems.  The chicco car seat was rated safer than Gracco and the travel system is about 7 pounds lighter but I've also read that the car seat doesn't fit into shopping carts, etc.  Any opinions on these?

Thanks ladies!

Re: Chicco v. Graco travel system?

  • Are you looking at the Graco Metrolite??? We were deciding between the 2 as well -- guess how I ended up deciding? I liked the Chicco pattern better :) I wouldn't stress too much about the car seat rating b/c the Snug Ride and the Key Fit are really both excellent. I felt like the Graco was possibly a little easier to fold up, etc. - however, I have been practicing with my Chicco and it seems pretty easy too. I also had your reservations about the Chicco in terms of it not fitting into shopping carts and restaurant high chair type things. However, I was told a million times that you should not put the car seat on top of the cart anyway so that sort of helped me make my decision too. Still don't know how I'll handle it at restaurants! Have you practiced at all with them in the store?

  • I was practicing yesterday in the store and will probably go back for another run at some point.  The chicco folded better for me because you don't have to bend down to fold it and it's lighter.  My husband likes the chicco better but I'm still debating.  Thanks!

  • It seems like almost everyone I read about on 3rd tri who is getting a TS, is going with Chicco.  Someone posted and it was like 7 out of 10 posts. This is a different one with lots of recs.

  • good info!  we bought our Chicco this weekend, it was $25 off with an additional 15% off, we couldn't resist...
  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE my chicco travel system, and they have amazing customer service. My stroller broke last week, and they're sending me a new one! And FWIW, it's not safe to put any car seat on a shopping cart - makes it very top heavy & unstable. I just put DS's set in the basket of the cart when I was shopping, or wore him in a carrier if I had a lot to get at the grocery store.
  • We have not used ours yet, but so far I am very pleased with our selection of the Chicco.  We too debated between the two systems and found an awesome store that really knows their stuff to help us decide.  Basically, both systems are very good...chicco is rated higher with CR, but not by enough to make a significant difference.

For us, the HUGE advantage to the chicco is how easily it snaps into the carseat base.  It is pretty much dummy proof.  I also liked the adjustable handle on the stroller (both DH and I are taller and can adjust it to suit our comfort needs).  And, as someone else mentioned, I just liked the basic "look" of the chicco better.

The chicco cannot sit in a buggie, but Graco tells you not to do it with their seat either since it is not safe.

  • We were initially going to get the Graco.  We changed our minds and opted for the Chicco b/c the Chicco Cortina stroller was rated very well for tall people.  You don't kick the back of the stroller when you walk and you don't have to hunch over.  So if you or dh is on the tall side, you may like the chicco.
  • We got a chicco too! We're tall as well - but we love it either way! (we haven't used it full time yet - but we tried it out and liked it better than any others so far!
  • For me, the fact that Chicco is rated higher than Graco for safety was all I needed to hear.  We're not doing the whole travel system (we're getting the snap and go instead), but I just had heard better things about the Chicco snapping into the base, and how ithe infant carrier is easier to maneuver and use than the Graco

Plus one of the guys at the store said that for that price range, the Chicco is really a better system than the Graco.   But I have plenty of friends who have the Graco and are very happy with it. So I guess they each have their pros and cons.

  • I want the Chicco sooooo bad!!!~!! BUT.... I can't handle the HUGE stroller that it comes with it.

Baby bargians talked a lot of smack about their stroller.

I think we may end up with the Graco because it will fit in a snapride type stroller that will fit better in my car.

The Chicco base makes me want it.... but I need a smaller stroller : (
