Has anyone used Slim-Fast?

I would really like something easy to stick to but is still healthy. I know DH will argue with me (he seems to think he's an expert on losing weight... um that's why none of your belts fit you anymore, buddy!) but I really don't think that the Slim-Fast meal plan is that bad. They have you do the shake for breakfast & lunch, but you also add veggies and other stuff to the shake to make it more balanced and give your body a little more to run on. WDYT?

Re: Has anyone used Slim-Fast?

  • I did it before I got married.  I only did a shake in the morning, and I froze it, so it was a slush (chocolate!).  I did not follow the "plan", but I used their website, the meal/snack bars and the shakes.  I also followed 1500 cal/day.
  • Loading the player...
  • All their new shakes use splenda (sucralose)..imo not healthy.

Why don't you try just eating healthier foods over all.  Look into something like the Pritikin method.  Thats what I am trying at least.  Its a lifestyle change though..not a diet like slim fast or calorie counting.

  • My sister has tried to incorporate slim fast and the special K diets into her meal plans to lose weight overall.  So far it is working!  I think eating less, working out more - no matter what the plan is called can work if you apply yourself.
  • I probably won't follow the plan per se. It just seems like an easier solution to get the vitamins and such that I need and keep myself reigned in. If I'm just going with 'eating more healthy', I will cheat because it's just easier. I know myself. Stick out tongue
  • I have one for breakfast. I like the Optima ones, keeps me fuller longer. I don't follow the plan really, just stick to a 1500 cal diet. So far, so good, but I just started. I have lost 6lbs in 2 weeks.

  • My DH did the shakes a few years ago (along with exercising) and he did lose weight.  After his follow up visit with his doctor, he stopped using the shakes because to doctor said his sugar was WAY higher than it should be, and the only thing they could attribute it to was the shakes.  Once he stopped, his levels returned to where they had previously been.

Also, one he stopped, he also gained some of the weight back.  It's a fine way to lose weight in the short term, but its not a solution to long term weight management, IMO.

  • Just drank a shake this morning.... I actually like the Walmart generic chocolate brand better than real slim fast
  • Slimfast was tasty, but it wasn't really a "diet" tool for me.  It was more like a lazy woman's breakfast back when I had a 1hour 15minute commute.

I'm by no means a skinny minny, but the only diet that I followed and was able to keep the lost weight off was WW. It's because it's really the only thing out there that teaches you to make healthy choices or you'll end up having to starve yourself by lunchtime because you ate too much or made bad choices for breakfast.

  • I did it back in college.  I lost the 20 lbs I needed to lose in just over 3 months.  I did the shake or bar for breakfast and lunch along with snacks (veggies or the slim fast snack bar).  Dinner was a lot of salads, lean chicken, etc.  I worked out for close to an hour every day.  I was starving for that entire summer.  I would never do it again.  I don't have the willpower or desire to chase after a 2 yo on such a low calorie diet.  That's really what it boils down to is reducing calorie intake so much that you're forced to lose weight.
