Qs about sharing a crib

Just a few quick q's about putting both babies in one crib.

1. How long did your babies stay in the same crib?

2. What position do/did you keep them in? Right now I have them side-by-side horizontal in the crib since they are short enough to fit that way.

3. How far apart do/did you place them in the crib? I've had them about a foot apart but last night Poppy broke out of her swaddle and was perpendicular to Stella, practically kicking her in the head. Probably not a good thing...

?Thanks!?

Re: Qs about sharing a crib

  • We started out with them side by side in sleep positioners.  Then each at their own end vertically and perpendicular to the side of the crib.  When they got to be too tall then we put them diagonally in the crib and then feet together but separated by about a foot.

I will say this.  As much as I hated to do it, we put them in their own crib at 6 months.  It broke my heart because I envisioned snuggly bed mates, but they sleep better in their own space.

  • 1.  4 1/2 months - when they started getting too long

    2.  Side by side with head to toe at each side of the crib (not the ends).

    3.  They were about a foot apart and were always swaddled (we didn't break them of their swaddle until 6 1/2 months) so they never moved around really.

  • when my girls were born we were in a one bedroom apt, so they were in one crib until we moved when they were 6 months old.  I think that i would have seperated them sooner because they were getting crowded in there.  i liked having them together, they were so cute!

  • Our kids still share a crib.  We really do not have room for another one and they sleep about 10hrs minimum at night unless teething or something get them up. They rarely wake each other during the night.

We started out side by side in sleep positioners about 10 inches from the sides of the crib.  As they got longer we shifted to putting them diagonally.  Now we put them down mostly diagonally but they roll over and curl up to sleep so they are not toughing each other usually.  And they do that napping anywhere too.  Some nights they are cuddled together sleeping happily.

From what I hear it REALLY depends on the kids. My kids will cuddle together on the floor and play too.

Once in a while I think we need to figure something out (like the other day DS woke up DD by pulling her wubba out of her mouth) then they go to cuddling and sleeping 12 hrs. I do need to move them for their own good but I am hoping to wait til the spring when we build their bedrooms.

  • Started out side by side in sleep positioners, swaddled.  Now at 7.5 months theyre still in the same crib, but diagnonal right next to each other.  They start out about 6 inches apart, but end up right next to each other - and they don't wake each other up.  however, its time to move them to separate cribs because if one wakes up and I take him out of the crib, the other one immediately turns to be long way in the crib and really stretches out - so I think thats a sign!  lol.
  • I just separated mine at 8 months! :) ?They loved sleeping together. ?I out them like you have them. ?Even when they were far apart, they would end up cuddled together every morning. So we just laid them right nest to each other. Eventually, my DS was rolling too much and poking DD in the face while she slept so it was time to move her!
  • Hey just wanted to say congratulations on your babies! Yours were born just a couple days before mine.

I have  them both in the crib the short way, like you. They are seperated by a few inches but can touch. We have them sort of propped up on my old body pillow.
