3rd Trimester

What are you wearing during labor?

I am trying to pack our bag for the hospital, and I am stuck on what to pack for when I am in labor.  Will you just wear a hospital gown, or do you have something more comfortable in mind?  What about the rest of your stay at the hospital and when you come home?  I need ideas ladies!  TIA

Re: What are you wearing during labor?

  • I wore nothing.

  • I plan on wearing a hospital gown during labor/delivery.  Afterwards I am taking two cotton gowns I bought.  I figured pants weren't ideal with all of the bleeding, etc.

  • the hospital gown...no reason to get my stuff all bloody

I should say I wore nothing during labor.

Afterwards, I wore the hosptial gowns and, if I got up to wander the halls, a robe.

Going home, I wore yoga pants and a maternity top. Comfy is key!

  • For labor I will just be wearing the hospital gown. After delivery and I get cleaned up I *might* put on my own pj's or yoga pants. Totally waiting on that what to see how things are going.
  • during labor, I'll just wear what the hospital gives me, but I also packed a couple of nursing tanks, some pajama pants and a nightgown

Just joking.  Seriously though, wear the hospital gown.  You could end up covered in urine, blood, feces, amniotic fluid, vomit, cervical mucus or something worse.

    Ditto

  • I wore the hospital gown during labor, just in case I needed an epi or in case they needed to do an emergency c-section. I ended uphaving her vaginally, but you never know so that was the easiest for me and my labor choice. Afterwards i wore pj's with buttons so i could breast feed her comfortably. I need to pack my bag, thanks for the reminder!!

  • During labor they made me take off everything except for the hospital gown.  Afterwards, I wore cotton capris and a long sleeved t-shirt.  It made me feel more human to take a shower and get dressed each day.  It also helped pass the time.
  • A tank. I wore tanks for my whole stay. Much more comfy the the gowns they give you.
  • I'll wear the oh so beautiful hospital gown they give you to wear.  But I was just thinking earlier to start looking for a comfy jogging suit: zip up hoodie and stretchy pants. And a bf tank.  My grandmother got me a really nice set when I had DD.  And I lived in it for weeks, so comfy.
  • I plan on wearing the gown they give me.. and possibly during recovery wearing some yoga pants but we'll see how bad the bleeding is..

  • W/ #1 I wore the hospital gown for labor, after showering and what not I wore a cotton nightgown that I bought specifically for recovery.( I am not really a night gown gal.)

W/ #2 i wore just a sports bra during labor and felt less bulky than the gown which was huge and falling off my shoulders. For after i wore uper comfy PJ pants and nursing tanks. It was not a problem to pull them down when I got "checked." and I was more comfy walking around covered up a little.

  • Are you serious?

  • I bought a really soft and comfy (and cheap!) tank nightgown at Target.  It covers what a hospital gown would cover, and I figure I can at least try it in my own clothes before I go for the hospital gown (or take it all off).

why wouldn't she be serious? we get this question at least once a day.

  • whole lotta hospital gown
  • I just spit on my computer screen laughing at the pink dress above.

I'm giving birth at a birth center and hoping for a water birth, so Im wearing a tankini bathing suit top and skirt as a bottom while in the tub. Ill look for some kind of gown to wear when Im laboring before I get in the tub. For recovery and the trip home, probably some yoga pants or some kind of loungewear outfit.

  • Probably a sports bra or a tank. Maybe a nightgown in the beginning. I'm allergic to most detergents so can't wear the gowns without getting a full body rash so that's not an option for me.

  • I wore a sports bra.  I was in a tub for awhile, and when I got out they put a warm blanket on me.  I kept the blanket on while I was on the birthing ball (practically the entire labor) and took it off when I started pushing.  I had the temp in the room cranked up the whole time.  I wanted to be warm, but clothes just weren't an option - especially those hospital gowns, so uncomfortable!

I did wear the gown the first night (DD was born at 10:00pm) but the next day I switched to comfy PJ pants and nursing tanks.  I brought a Gap body robe that was great for covering up/keeping warm.

  • Hospital gown for sure...   I had postpartum hemorrhage last time and I'm so glad I was not wearing my own clothes.  I probably would have decided to toss them.
  • My hospital required you to wear ONLY the gown
