DD is so cramped in her backwards facing car seat. I feel like I should turn her around. I know safety is an issue but at some point it needs to be done.
I'm going to keep him rear facing as long as possible. The weight limit for my carseat RF is 35 pounds and he only weighs 24 pounds now, so he's got a while. He's much safer RF, even with his legs being cramped.
We turned her around at 13 months. I wanted to keep her RF for as long as possible, but she outgrew the height requirement. She was about 26 pounds at 13 months.
We are doing it on his birthday. DS Screams the whole car ride, which our oldest did as well until we moved him forward facing. I am counting down the days. Hes already well over 20lbs too. We live in the boonies, so we never have short car rides, its always very stressful.
We bought a car seat that maxes at 80 lbs so we won't have to worry about another purchase. The bonus is it can be rear facing as well. So, we're keeping it rear facing for as long as we can get away with. Everything I read says that with rear facing they risk breaking legs but with front facing they risk breaking their neck or back.

I want to wait until he reaches the height max for rearfacing. He is long and lean so weight wise he is barely 20lbs. He still seems comfy facing backwards and has some leg room.
I haven't yet and won't for a while. DD was 34" and 25lbs at 18mo. I will wait until she maxes out the carseat either by height or weight. She crosses her legs or puts them up the seat back. I think that most people are projecting when they say their baby is "cramped" - yeah, you couldn't sit like that, but kids sit in all sorts of weird ways that would be uncomfortable for us.
Also, some non-safety reasons for keeping her RFing (I had her FFing on vacation because our seat would not fit in the rental car with room for a front seat passenger)... at every red light, her head flopped forward and she couldn't get to sleep; her drink and toys kept falling to the floor because they weren't contained by her legs and the seatback; fewer options from blocking the sun in her eyes. These aren't reasons I keep her RFing, they're just the perks
If you went to Scandanavian countries you would find 6yo RFing, so it' kind of hard to see how a toddler is cramped.
DS is 33 inches and very tall for his age and 29 lbs. He is still rear facing. I would much rater him break a leg than break his neck. RF'ing is MUCH safer and worth all the screaming he may do. Just my 2 cents. His car seat goes to 35lbs and 1 inch from the top so he is good.?
not until the next baby comes in June then we will turn DS around he is now about 22lbs and almost 16 months - he is long (80%) for height. I don't care how cramped his legs are - as the carseat safety nurse told us - "We can fix broken legs but we cannot fix broken necks" - SO RF he stays until we can no longer do it and that is when the new baby comes.

Not yet and she's very cramped. But she's within the limits for rear-facing and I'd like to keep her that way until as close to two as possible. I'll probably turn her around in May because I need to move her carseat over to make room for the new baby's seat, which has to go behind the passenger seat where hers is now.
DS is 15 months and 25 lbs, we just turned him this weekend. I know it is safer to go rear facing but he was so cramp and hated the car and it is really hard for me to get him in and out that way, so we turned him. I am still a little nervous but the dr said at 1 we could turn him so I just gave in.
Re: When did DC face forward?
Not yet....
we're tempted b/c she hates the car. but it's not quite worth it for us. She's only 13 mos and 22 lbs.
We did it about 2 weeks ago. We really needed the room in the front seat so it had to be done.

My older kids were all at least 2 before we turned them FF, and I will do the same with these two.
My girls also hate the car but I don't consider that worth risking their lives.

Just switched this weekend. He is much much happier now. He is over 28 lbs and over 30 inches so he's fine.
