Okay, today is day 3 after my ER. We had 10 at our fert report and 10 yesterday. Today we have 6. Obviously, I knew we weren't going to get to the ET with all 10 or anything, but I'm scared what I'm going to hear tomorrow.
From what I'm gauging, it seems that there is always one day out of the 5 that you have a bigger drop than the other days. Is that right? Should I expect another big drop tomorrow or maybe just one or two?
I don't want to be too greedy, but I would love to head into our 5dt with 4 embies. Then, we would have a good possibility at snowbabies. Do you think it's realistic to hear that we have at least 4 tomorrow since we have 6 today? I just thought from 10 to 6 felt like a major drop (and a band aid ripped off!).
Thoughts? What did you have at day 3 if you did a 5dt? What were your numbers each day?
Any reassurance is appreciated.
Re: 6 is good, right?! (SAIFW)
I can't even fathom 6 on day three!!! My last cycle we had 14 on day 1, and 3 on day 2 - I think once you get to day three you're probably in pretty good shape
I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
Elizabeth - thanks so much for responding! I was hoping you were on.
I didn't realize these drops were normal.
Last time we had 10,10, 8 and then 3. So, I was expecting my big drop tomorrow. Maybe it just came earlier this round. I am hoping that it's going to plateau now!
Thanks for your reassurance....
We only had 7 left on day 3 (and we started with 10 like you).
6 out of the 7 were still alive and kickin' on day 5 (although we got no snowbabies because the 4 we didn't put back had the gene defect we were trying to avoid with the PGD).
So yeah - 6 sounds pretty darn good to me!

ETA: just for fun here's the whole rundown:
ER: 16 eggs retrieved - 13 mature & ICSI'd
Day 1: 10 of 13 fertilized normally, 2 fertilized abnormally (triploidy) and were discarded
Day 2: no update
Day 3: 7 embies growing strong with 6+ cells (each biopsied - and sent off to NJ for PGD)
Day 4: no update
Day 5: 6 embies growing strong, 1 arrested after biopsy on day 3
* 4 embies not suitable for transfer/affected result from PGD
* 1 "great looking" blast and 1 "fair" cleaved morula transferred back
It sounds good to me
When I went in yesterday (day 3) I had 2 "great" embies to transfer and then 1 "good" one they were keeping their eyes one to possibly freeze.... that being said, I had 9 fertilized so I essentially went from 9 to 3 (definitely, not my best cycle).
I don't remember the specifics of my other cycles, but I recall a pretty significant drop off -- Sorry I don't have more info. They are letting you wait until day 5, so I assume your doctor must think everything looks fine. Try not to worry too much - Good Luck!!

Yes, 6 is great! I started out with 11 fertilized and had 8 on day 5, but only 6 made it. We transferred 2 and froze 4 (other 2 were not good enough to freeze). Sorry I don't remember how many I had on day 3. If your RE is pushing you to a 5 day transfer then he must feel confident about the 6 remaining. I hope they all hang on until day 5!

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
6 sounds great! ?
I have no experience with 5 day transfers - it really seems my RE does 3 days nearly always. ?
?
Good luck, good luck, good luck! ??

6 is graet! I would agree that hopefully you will still have 4 by Monday, so that way you have two to freeze at its nice to have a backup but I'm sure you won't need it. ITs really nice that your doctor give you daily updates too, our didnt't do that!
6 is great and I think you definitely have a shot at having 4+ tomorrow.
I'm so glad that my doctor doesn't call everyday with a fert report. It would have me freaking out!! For our fresh cycle, we were told that we had 15 embies on the day after ER. When we got to 5dET, we were told that we had 9 left. I think that if they had called me everyday with an update it would have added so much stress to know that we were losing embies. Try not to think about it too much. Easier said than done, I know! Just know that things are going normal, and if your doc had any concern, I'm sure you would know it!
