3rd Trimester

When are you going on Maternity Leave?

I want to work up until the end, but I'm exhausted...and I don't exactly have a desk job. Today they had me OUTSIDE in the negative wind chill.  It was only about an hour but I can't decide if I'd be better off asking for them to make my work conditions a little nicer or just staying home. I want as much time at home with my little girl as possible.

Re: When are you going on Maternity Leave?

  • I have a desk job... I'm thinking maybe stopping at 37-38 weeks. I can't concentrate and get so tired.

  • I'm being sneaky. My doctor is putting me on bed rest the last two weeks and it doesn't count as maternity leave until i have the baby. I'm exhausted now and I'm sure I'll need the break before baby comes.
  • Two weeks beforehand. Last day is Feb. 6th, Due Feb. 19th*. Then again, I had to call in today because my back hurt so bad I didn't sleep last night. The next three weeks should be fun :)

    ?

*My original due date was the 23rd before they moved it and it is still what's on the paperwork for the insurance company and for STD?

  • I'm working until I go into labor. That way I can still build up my paid time off and have more time with him once he's born, instead of taking off before when it could be a while until I have him.
  • I teach, and I'm hoping to teach up until the day I have the baby. I wish I could take time off before, but I want to use all the time I have for when the baby is here.?

This is exactly what I want to do...how did you swing it, did you just ask your dr to write you a note?

Wow!  That's a good idea...I haven't looked in a while but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't make a difference in PA...we have the WORST maternity leave in the nation.  12 weeks unpaid...and my employer doesn't offer anything above the law. Some do.  I guess I'll use my 2 weeks vacation and then I'm just unpaid.

I'll check on the bed rest thing though. Thanks for posting!

  • I am working up until I go into labor too. ?Today was my last day of going into the office. ?I am going to work from home until the end. ?My 40 mile each way commute was starting to get old fast. ?

yes she agreed to write a note I feel bad about it but every pregnant woman deserves a break.
  • My last day is one week before EDD.

  • I work for a very small company and my boss is really flexible, so i'll most likely go to working part time and possibly from home for the last 2 weeks before my due date. That way i can get more rest and I can still help my boss when he needs me.

Oh do not feel bad at all. I just have to muster up the balls to ask...I hope my dr. is as cool as yours.

  • I'm trying for bed rest the last week. Then have my maternity leave. But i'm even tryin to not go back afterwards, Dh is trying to get me hired on for the pt position opening around that time. It will be easier on me
  • I asked my doc to take me off work when I was 34 weeks and he didn't even ask why, he just wrote me a note! I am on short term right now and I get 6-8 weeks after I have the baby.
  • At the end of 36w. I'm not going back to work, so I know I'll be ready by then!

  • Until delivery...ugggghhhh!

But only because it'll be a financial necessity (single mom...and need the $). If I had the option, I'd take off the last month I think.

I had to lay down this afternoon and actually missed the first 30 min of a semi-important conference call because of it. I still can't believe there's 5 more weeks to go...

  • I plan on working until 39w.
  • My OB said she would sign disability papers for me after 36 weeks whenever I said the magic words... but I'm still working. Keeping my fingers crossed that today was my last day! :)
  • I teach first grade...DEFINITELY NOT a desk job! ?lol. ?My due date was Jan. 13th. ?Our last day before Christmas break was Dec. 19 (I think...18th or 19th anyway). ?I took sick/personal leave days Jan. 5-Feb. 10. ?FMLA (read NO PAY) will be Feb. 11-March 13. ?I'm going back March 16. ?I figured it would be easier on my kids and my sub to start the semester out with her...and with it being my first, and my OB telling me that he's big and they wanted me to be REALLY ready at 36 weeks...that was what I decided.

Had I known that my little guy was going to be stubborn, I would have gone back for these last 10 days...but there's no way to know that...and I probably would've been completely miserable! ?If I have any more, I think I will plan on working up until due date.

  • I'm hoping to work until the bitter end, but it has been harder in recent weeks.  I'm sleeping poorly and therefore my concentration is not what it used to be.  I also take public transport, and waiting for the bus or train while carrying my heavy laptop is getting old.  But like others said, I'm hoping to save up all my leave for after the baby comes.  If I start really having trouble with the commute, I will work from home.

  • Im a therapist so for the most part I am sitting in a chair unless I am with one of my kiddos and I might get on the floor. I plan on stopping on March first if baby has not come by then. My EDD is March 4th. However, I am already in the process of transferring some of my cases to other therapist who will need to be seen while I am gone just in case I go early. All others have opted to wait until I return from Mat leave.

I will be taking at least two months off, maybe three.?

  • My due date is Wednesday, February 18th and did my STD paperwork for my last day of work to be Friday, February 20th.   I also live in PA and only get what I can from FMLA - so 12 weeks is max.  I figure if I still haven't gone by 2 days past my due date, I'll be too miserable to work anyway, so I'll want the time off, but I still want to spend as much of those 12 weeks with my baby.

Luckily, I've been feeling pretty good so far.  Hopefully this continues.

  • I am planning on working until the birth....I want to save my vaca until after I get back from maternity leave and with the baby...
  • I'm a teacher and stand most of the day but I do have the opportunity to sit down when needed. So, I plan to work until 38 weeks.

  • Well, my due date is tomorrow - I worked today, and I am scheduled for the next two weeks...by my own request.  I went overdue last time and didn't want to spend unpaid time sitting home waiting to go into labor.
  • my company gives us 4 weeks prior to the due date & 6 weeks after if it's a vaginal birth, 8 weeks if it's a c-section.  i'd work up until the due date if i could tack the 4 weeks on afterward, but it's a use it or lose it situation...
  • I'm due 3/25(Wednesday) and my maternity leave is scheduled to start on 3/20 (Friday)

  • I have a desk job too and I'm working as long as I can.  It's a really busy time of year for me, lots to get done before I go!
