late ovulation and bad eggs?

I keep reading this in peoples posts. Is this true? If you ovulate really late, the egg is probably no good. Does that mean genetically defective?

It means the hormones that should be released with your egg won't be enough (that's what my OB said, not sure why).

But to be considered late and bad, I think it has to be like cd30 and up.

intersting...i'm going to have to ask my doc. my bcp cycle that ended in m/c i must have o'ed at day 36. My hormones were fine but there was a genetic defect. They found it after d/c.

Now, I'm scared sh!tless because I think I probably o'ed late again being that i'm on day 43. if it winds up being bfp, i'm afraid the same will happen.

My OB said that may have been the reason why I miscarried -- bad egg. I had a freakishly long cycle on my first bfp. I would have O'd (based on what the u/s told us) around CD50 to CD60. This time around I O'd on CD22.

I found this article, and here's a bit from it...w/ my 1st m/c I o'd on CD35, but w/ the 2nd I O'd on CD18 (w/ Clomid) so, who knows!!

In addition, the lining of the uterus, the endometrium, is where the fertilized egg, the blastocyst, has to attach and implant. If the endometrium is too old, it is less likely to provide sufficient nutrition for the blastocyst, so implantation is decreased. I wonder if this is based on a 28 day cycle??

My average cycle length is 35, and I think I O around cd 21. (I use a CBEFM)

Jeny - my OB didn't think O'ing at CD28 would cause bad eggs or any problems. I finally got a script for clomid though b/c I told him that even if my eggs were fine, I was sick of having 40+ day cycles. If your cycles continue being so long, maybe you can get a script for it too.

Wow -- I've never thought about this. I got pg on my first cycle off bcp and I o'd on CD35 that cycle. I never tracked the length of my cycle prior to being on bcp, AF just came when she came and I dealt with it (regretting that now, obviously), so I don't know if that cycle was normal, or just a reaction to just coming off bcp.

I'll have to ask my OB what she thinks at my followup appointment on Tuesday.... I sure do love to have additional things to worry about :-/

I O really late. I got my BFP on an O of probably 35-40 days. This is something I'm asking my dr about on Tuesday.

When we first met with our RE and he saw my charts where I was o'ing around cd 25 he said he was not happy with that at all, he said that at that point the 'shell' around your egg becomes too soft and usually lets in more than one sperm, which basically can't create a viable embryo. That was the explanation he gave to me. I started taking clomid and it made me O around cd 14-15, he was much happier with that.
