The Doctors & Peanut Butter

I'm watching The Doctors right now. ?This is only the second time I've seen it and they just happen to be talking about medical myths. ?One of the questions they brought up was about peanut butter and pregnancy. ?I was kind of half paying attention during the answer, but I think I understood them to say that, during pregnancy, peanut butter is fine. ?However, if you choose to b/f, you should stay away from it because it can sensitize the child to future nut allergies.

?I know that people have brought up studies which give different info, but I just thought I'd add this into the mix.?

Just eat what you can while you can, if something is going to happen, it's going to happen. Might as well enjoy things while you can!!

  • I was never told to refrain from peanut butter while breastfeeding, and even got the ok to introduce pb at age 1 (gasp!).  I'd just follow what your own doc advises since I know few of us have the time or inclination to read and digest all the studies ourselves.
  • Interesting! :::rolls off the sofa to go make homemade peanut butter cookies:::
  • I've never heard that peanut butter was bad when bf or pg.  For my situation however, I don't eat it when pg or bf'ing and my toddler hasn't been introduced to it either.  DH is DEATHLY allergic to peanuts so I'm just too scared to eat it in case baby has the allergy and I'm too scared to test it on toddler yet, I'll wait till she's a little older.
  • I actually read on a q&a on here that since a lot of pg women can't stand the sight of meat that eating peanuts and peanut butter was a great way to still get some protein that you need.  Apple slices and peanut butter is one of my favorite snacks lately.
