Question about cost of Clomid

My OB wrote me a perscription for Clomid to fill next cycle if I am not KU this cycle, as well as one for Prometrium, which I filled last night. Luckily the Prometrium was covered by my insurance plan (just had to pay a $15 co-pay), but I don't think Clomid will be since my insurance doesn't cover any fertility/infertility treatments. Does anyone know approximately how much a 5-day cycle of Clomid costs without any insurance deductions? I am worried about how much it could be since the Prometrium would have cost nearly $380 if it hadn't been covered. Thanks in advance!

Re: Question about cost of Clomid

  • My insurance covers absolutely no fertility treatment or drugs but it covered clomid and I only paid $5!! I hope you have a good surprise :)

  • My insurance didn't cover it at all!! I know to get it filled at Walgreens it was 19$ for 50 mg for 5 days. BUT, I found out in Missouri at Walmart it's on the $9 perscription list. SO, I was able to get it there for only $9.00. GL! I would call around to different pharmacy, becuase there was a price difference in serveral pharmacies around me.

GL! And I hope you don't need it cause your KU this cycle! :)

  • Wow--$5?? That's great! Here's hoping that's the case for me too! I guess it doesn't really make a difference anyway...I will pay for it whether it is $5 or $500 if it means I can finally have a successful pregnancy.

  • Clomid has a generic which makes it pretty affordable. AWP (average wholesale cost) is about $7 a tab.

Thanks for the info! Walgreens is my normal pharmacy, and $19 isn't bad, but $9 is even better. :)  And I hope I don't need it too! That 4% chance of conceiving multiples has my husband a little freaked out ;)

  • I paid $9 w/out insurance  at Target...w. insurance it would have cost me $10 (copay)

  • I have no coverage for it, and I pay $9 per 5 day 50mg. It cost me $27 this last time b/c they tripled my dosage. You can find pharmacies that don't cost as much- I think Walmart might be like that. GL!
  • Before I filled my Rx I learned that the true Clomid drug is about $70 for 5 pills, but that the generic ranged from $5-$20 without insurance.

     Good Luck!

  • Walmart is the way to go with clomid if you don't have insurance that covers it - only $9!
  • My was $21.65 to be exact without insurance, 6 days and generic brand which is exactly the same as name brand. Pharmacist don't even carry name brand because they are like $90.
  • Clomid is supposed to be on the $4 perscription list for Walmart.  Definitely check there before filing at your normal pharmacy.
