I was just reading info on my hospitals page and it states that "Matching bracelets will be placed on both you and baby. A HUGS tag will be placed on baby's ankle, emitting a signal if baby is illegally taken from both snuggery or hospital building. Please do not give baby to anyone that comes into your room without a hospital issued name tag."
I think I almost poo'd myself.
Re: To keep your baby from being stolen...
The same thing was in my hospital's book. SCARY thoughts!!! I'm hoping baby really won't have to be out of my sight -- and if he is, I hope DH will be with him.
I suggested DH go the route advocated in "The Office" and mark him with a distinguishing symbol with a sharpie marker as soon as he comes out!
Freaky isn't it?
Without trying to scare people - baby snatching is a real thing. DH works in health care and was talking with a neo-natal surgeon at Hopkins who told him they have a problem with it there.
Yeah at my hospital they give baby an anklet that matches my bracelet and if baby gets more than XX feet away from me it sets off an alarm.
It made me feel safe that no one could do anything without the nurses knowing about it.
That is scary...but it's better that people are aware it can happy than live in a fantasy world of puppies, rainbows, and non-baby stealing crazies.
EDIT: *can happen*
at our hospital they renovated the floor to have mother suites so the baby stays in the same room as you. i'm sure they still have the bracelets and sensors as well.
it's a scary thought, but i'm sure it happens more than anyone would like to think.
Yes, I totally agree! This is one of the reasons we plan on keeping the baby in the room with us, regardless of how tired we may be. I'm completely freaked out now at the idea of someone stealing my baby!
The hospital were I had DS had this and the crazy thing was a few days before he was born some ladies baby was stole but in a total different state that didn't have it. I don't know the details there.
?
But anywhoo with this baby ?I am going to a different hospital because had to change Dr. due to insurance. I think they have it too. I guess I will find out at my tour.
