Pubic/groin pain anyone?

I woke up this morning and could barely walk. It feels like I ran 65 miles yesterday. My groin and pubic bone/are are really sore. Is anyone experiencing this? Is it normal???? TIA!

Re: Pubic/groin pain anyone?

  • I had that around 30 weeks and Dr. said not to be alarmed and my pubic bone was just starting to spread.

  • oh god....i cry walking through the grocery store! My pubic bone and groin have been so sore for weeks now, about 4 weeks. Sometimes I swear my pubic bone is going to snap in half! I've cut out all exercise and my husband does the grocery shopping. Taking a warm bath actually helps-I don't know if it just helps relax me or if it is physically helping; but, it helps.

The doctor said it's normal and it's my pelvis widening for the birth. They said take tylenol when it's bad. I asked if I should stop exercising or push through and they said, if it hurts, don't do it. She also said, some women find relief from stomach support bands. I've seen them at Babies R' Us; but, I'm not ready to buy one of them yet.

  • I'm right there with ya!  It is normal, it's your pubic symphysis.  Basically the spot in your pubic region where the 2 sides of your pelvis connect with a ligament.  Since our bodies are releasing relaxin, this ligament is also effected thus causing discomfort.  There are special belts that you can buy that help "hold" your pelvis to limit movement which can reduce your pain.
  • OH DEAR GOD YES! And I must say that Tylenol is like a tick-tac! I feel like I have been kicked there, HARD!
  • My doc said it's ligaments stretching. Normal but painful. I cursed like a sailor this morning putting on my pants.
  • Every now and then, it comes and goes for me.
  • It is normal, but it sucks!  If I had nuts, I think this is what it would feel like to get kicked in them.  Mine is only on the left side though...
  • All the time...I describe it to my co workers as being actually able to feel my hips spreading.

  • Mine started at like 25 weeks. Sometimes it hurts so bad I cry! It's really bad at night too! My dr said it's normal and to try getting a pregnancy belt to help the pain... I still need to buy one...
  • Yes, this is the only "uncomfortable" part of my pregnancy so far. It is the worst first thing in the a.m.

Yeah, I posted about this earlier today and was told the same thing by my OB.  It's really feels like my you know what is bruised big time.  Not pleasant.

  • YES! and I actually went to my prenatal yoga this week, thought I was going to die and it felt good, I only had to sit out from two or three poses, basically anything involving lifting my legs- putting on pants, sitting up and down is very painful.

But I am walking everyday and taking nightly baths and just dealing. Sucks.

  • I started noticing this about a week or two ago, only on my left side and was planning on asking about it at my next appt. It hasn't been terribly painful yet, but definitely uncomfortable. I slipped my belly band on last week when I went for a walk to help support my tummy/pelvis more and that seemed to help a little.
