DD all of a sudden hating bathtime?!

DD has loved baths from the beginning, but all of a sudden she's starting to pull herself up on the side of the tub and cry/scream uncontrollably. The water is definitely not too hot, nor is it too cold and she has never minded getting water in her face; in fact she used to laugh at it. I'm so confused as to why she's reacting like this to bathtime. Could it just be a phase? Did your DC do this as well? TIA!

  • We are going through the same thing.  I hope it's a phase.

  • I've read that around you DD's age, they can suddenly develop a fear of the bath.  I recall it saying that it would go away in a month or two.  I would just try to reasure her-poor thing.

  • i had this issue about a month ago. i ended up buying new bath toys and a space heater. i get the bathroom super warm before he gets in and he loves it...it solved our issues! for now anyways....worth a shot! :)
  • Our dd has been doing that for the past month, it now takes 2 of us.  One to hold her and one to wash her.  I hope it passes too!
  • Thanks ladies! I know it's unfortunate that some of our babies are experiencing this but it does make me feel better to know we're not alone! She used to carry her bath toys from the tub around the house so now they're spread out....I may need to get her some new ones and see if that helps just a bit. Thanks again!
  • It's a phase.  DD did the same thing and also loves her baths.  You would think I was torturing her.  I just let her go unbathed for a few days, but would ask "do you want a bath tonight?  You know, to splash, splash, splash?" and made it sound fun.  First few times she said "no" and then one time she said "yes".  So I acted excited about it and off we went.  I washed her VERY quickly in case the tantrums returned and all was well.  Now I just start warning her -- "we're going to have a bath tonight -- yay!!!" and she usually complies.  If she really protests, I skip it and reschedule for the next night.  I think giving her a little control about whether or not she gets a bath (i.e. a choice) has helped a bit.

  • DS went through this phase.  It lasted about 3 weeks to a month.  I just made baths really quick during that time.  He is now 16 months and loves them again.  Now he cries when I take him out...go figure!
