On Monday night, DD started vomiting, almost violently it seemed, so we ran her to the pedi (night hours) who when they saw her, said to take her to the ER as it appeared she wouldn't be able to keep anything down(she was still throwing up in the office, going on 2 hrs at that point) to make sure she didn't get dehydrated. So we went, she got an IV, and was discharged by 2am. She did fine on Tues, held down the pedialyte, watered down formula and even small amounts of regular formula at a time by the end of the day. Wed was an almost normal day and she did fine too.
At 12:45am on Thurs, she woke to throwing up again, for about 1.5hrs this time, but the volume wasn't as much as the previous time. We got her back down to sleep finally, and yesterday she once again kept down pedialyte and some formula. I'm hoping that Thurs. morning was it, that it's gone, but wanted to know if any other DC's had this and how long to expect it to last? Plus, I hope if any other DC's had this, they are doing much better!! It really is a nasty bug.
Re: How long for stomach virus?
Cate had it for a week, we had to take her off formula all together as she would have some and then proceed to throw-up. I took her to the pedi 3 times that week for weight checks as she dropping weight very quickly he put her on a 1/2 oz of pedilyte every hour for 24 hours with plain rice cereal every 3 hours, she's been fine for a week but only in the last two days has started to take all of her bottles again.
Good luck, my DH ended up getting it, it was fun in our house.
Annika got it Wednesday, and mine showed up last night. She hasn't thrown up since yesterday morning, and is handling pedialyte and watered down formula ok, but she is having explosive watery diarreah every few hours. There is no diaper that can contain it!! Poor thing is miserable and just wants to be held.
I, on the other hand, have thrown up more in the last 12 hours than I have in the last 5 years combined. This is a pretty unhappy house right now. Good thing DH can take off easily to take care of us.
We did go to the dr yesterday, and she said this strain is particularly nasty and lasts up to a week.
