Recommend your SLR camera!

I have a decent P&S and a step up from P&S but want to move up to a good SLR. A friend recommended the Canon 40D, which just looking at it, I am in love with it. What do you have.

Also - I have no real good experience with cameras and plan to take a class a local community college to learn how to really use it!

Re: Recommend your SLR camera!

  • get the canon50D or nikon300D if you have the money.. if not - you can get the canon xTi which is really cheap now bc they are phasing it out - or just the xSi, but there isn't much difference betw the 2 unless you are a professional.

  • I have the Canon EOS Rebel.  I just got it yesterday, but have been using my mom's for the past year. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT.
  • i just got a nikon d-40 for xmas and i love it.
  • Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III (Love that camera!)

Not for you though. Too expensive. I would go with the Canon 40D. OR go to KEH.com (awesome camera store) and purchase a used pro camera/lenses. Many pros sell their used stuff when the new models come out so you can get a great camera for less $$$.

  • Canon Rebel XTI

Classes and Books make it almost not necessary to get pro pics done!

  • I got a Canon 40D for Christmas... it's amazing.  AMAZING.  I still have a lot to learn, but I absolutely love it.  I think the difference between teh 40D and the 50D is negligible unless you're a pro.  I'm a big fan of Canon... highly recommend if it's in your budget.  If not, check out the Canon Rebel... also a fantastic camera.
  • i have a canon rebel.  i love it!!!  very easy to use (its my 1st slr)

  • We have the nikon D40.  I considered getting the D90 but the extra features are only noticeable if you are serious about photography.  I use this camera for work as well and get great results.
  • my parents got me a nikon d40 for xmas and I looooooove it. they have one and have gotten so many awesome shots out of it.
  • Unless you're really gonna learn ALL the ins and outs of the camera (which you can definitely do if you want) there's no reason to get the 40d or 50d over a rebel xti or xsi.  I have a rebel, a 30d, and a 5d and they're all capable of taking practically the same quality photos, just a few fancier features the higher up you go.  Any of them would be great!
