Hey everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself. I have been ttc since May of this year with PCOS. I had a chemical pregnancy in October. We decided to go ahead and get a s/a on my husband which came back a couple of weeks ago with 0% normal form sperm. We were then referred to a male infertility specialist which would cost 150 for just the consultation. After much research, we decided to get him taking vitamins etc and we'll retest in a couple of months. Meanwhile, we've decided to take the adoption route with our first child....maybe eventually we can persue the ivf with icsi if his morphology is still way low for our second child. I'm actually really please with this decision. I feel like i ahve a goal and something to look ahead to. I think we're goign to be going through catholic social services. They seem to be less expensive and you still are able to get an infant domestically. It'll be at least 9-12 months to get the homestudy done ...then that takes 2 months.....and then we can be in the interview group for potential birthmothers. this gives us plenty of time to get our basement finished....and save up some money for our litle one.....I look foward to shareing this journey with you

Welcome.
Home studies for domestic adoptions tend to take 4-8 weeks, your post sounded like it will take you 9-12 months? Contrary to popular belief, domestic adoption of newborns is alive and well. There are actually a lot of domestic newborns available for adoption - though it depends on finances available and what race you desire. I wish you a smooth process!
Good luck with your journey remember knowledge is power

Wow I had no idea they had a wait like that just for the HS. Can you join them without them doing the homestudy with them so that you can go in the waiting pool sooner? Agencies do not generally 'have' to do the home study it can be done by 'anyone' who is licensed to do so. And as I said generally they take 4-8 weeks. Waiting a year for just the home study is really a long time.
Good luck :-)

I am in fl now...I am old I grad in 1996
We also live in Dayton (more specifically, a close suburb). I am somewhat familiar with adoptionlink. I will be curious to hear your feedback about the adoption fair.

whoops, previous message posted too soon and wouldn't let me delete.
My experience is fairly limited and yours may be different. I had a difficult time getting information from them. I don't want to say too much, but my husband does a decent amount of GAL work for Montgomery Co. and has been involved with a birthmother and some families who have used adoption link. I understand from the literature that they have had quite a few successful placements.
We were also concerned about the waiting time with CSSMV, but at the same time, there are parts of it that I like because it gives us time to appropriately prepare and to continue to spend time doing things we enjoy that would be more difficult to do if we had kids (e.g., traveling, going out to dinner on spur of the moment, sleeping in (rarely), fixing up the house, building my career, etc.) Although we were pretty confident with our decision to adopt in the first place, it's also given us an opportunity to truly study up on adoption issues and parenting techniques. As corny as it sounds, I really have appreciated how much my marriage with my husband has grown over the past five years (including all of the surprises, challenges and rewards). BecauseI know that having a child is going to radically change our life together, I'm enjoying the continuing evoluton of our relationship, which I think will make us personally better equipped to welcome child with all of the joys and challenges he or she may bring. I've learned that things in life doesn't always happen on the schedule that we want, but along the way I've discovered a lot of interesting things I may not have known had i always stuck to "the plan." I still think of myself as young with a lot more to discover in life (even though I think I graduated from HS 10 years before you), so I'm using the waiting time to keep learning and living.
[This ended up longer and more rambling than I epected. Sorry . . .]
