I've given DD avocados and sweet potato. I wanted to try apples next and am wondering if they need to be cooked? If so, do you just boil and mash them? I've heard conflicting sides about whether or not its necessary.
I actually just put them in a pan with water. I then froze the leftover water from the apples in ice cube trays and would add one to a sippy with water when he needed a little "help" instead of buying apple or pear juice.
Re: Baby food
when I introduced it to DS, I steamed them put it in the mini processor to pureed it.
Here's a site that I usually referenced when I was making DS's food:

Apples are really easy to do.
Peel
Cut into chunks
Put in them in a large barrel pan with a little bit of water at the bottom.
Let them simmer till their are really soft.
Pour everything in a food processor and puree.
I added a touch of fresh cinnamon.
Apples are my son's favorite. I even have a bowl for myself before I freeze them!
I put them in a little water as well and then puree.
