2nd Trimester

Anxiety help

Hi everyone - I’m 16 weeks pregnant and suffering from severe insomnia and anxiety. Before being pregnant I’ve had these issues but not to this extent - over the past week I’ve had many sleepless nights and some nights with an hour or 2. I’ve lost 7 pounds this past week due to not eating.

My psychiatrist prescribed me seraquil and Ativan to take as needed but I know Ativan is not advised usually. My doctors say the risks of taking it outweigh the risks of not taking it.

Has anyone else taken non-ssris like Ativan before either during this pregnancy or priors? I just want to know if people have had healthy babies after taking these pills.

Re: Anxiety help

  • Severe insomnia and weight loss are incredibly hard on your body during the second trimester. It is common for pre-existing anxiety to intensify now. Many women have navigated necessary medications under a doctor's care and gone on to have perfectly healthy babies, so trust the plan your medical team has built for you. To help calm your mind and support a more restful night naturally, I recommend trying Valerian Deep Sleep Tea. This organic, caffeine-free blend uses valerian root to gently soothe the nervous system and promote restorative sleep without a groggy "hangover" effect. It’s a wonderful, gentle ritual to help signal to your brain that it’s time to drift off, providing that extra layer of herbal support you need to finally get the rest you deserve.

Uhg!! this sounds really hard… the no sleep + anxiety combo during pregnancy is honestly brutal
I went through something similar in my second trimester, not the exact same meds but i was also terrified of taking anything. my OB and psychiatrist both kept reminding me that being severely anxious and not eating or sleeping can also affect the baby, which helped me shift my thinking a bit
I did end up taking what was prescribed (lowest dose, only when i really needed it), and my baby was completely fine. i know it’s so scary though, you keep second guessing everything
losing that much weight and not sleeping is a lot for your body to handle right now. if your doctors are aligned on this, that does mean something
You’re not alone in this at all. a lot of us have had to make these kinds of decisions and it’s never easy 🤍
