August 2026 Babies

Baby aspirin

I got both sides of obgyn advice to take baby aspirin or not. I'm 34 and will turn 35 by the time I'm due in August and it's my first pregnancy. Those are two potential risk factors for preeclampsia. Pregnancy has been smooth so far and I don't feel sick. I rather not take a pill if it's unnecessary. What are your experiences with baby aspirin?

Re: Baby aspirin

  • Preeclampsia is high blood pressure, so the aspirin can help keep things flowing a bit better. I've been taking a baby aspirin since I got my positive test because my OB recommended it after my second miscarriage. I'm now taking 2 a day (since 10 weeks) because I'm carrying twins and they increase my risk for preeclampsia too. I haven't had any issues related to the aspirin, and I've been told the benefits typically outweigh the risks.

Late to post, but because I was “obese” baby aspirin was recommended to me during my first pregnancy. I’m super cautious and anxious about putting extra things in my body, so after a ton of research and talking to professionals, I ultimately decided not to take it. I usually have low blood pressure (it elevated just a little later in pregnancy, but it was still normal), and I didn’t have many risk factors at all. I think it was more recommended as a precaution to me just for the medical staff to cover their bases, but I personally didn’t feel I needed it. It does not prevent preeclampsia is ultimately what one of my OBs told me. She said if you’re destined to have preeclampsia, you’ll get it regardless. I think if I had more risk factors or was carrying multiples, I’d take it. But do what you think is best for you and baby!
  • 35, will be 36 by the time I deliver. preeclampsia has never been raised as an issue by my OB. I was also told to avoid all OTC meds except Tylenol. OB also said at 35 my age is still considered low risk, 38 + for FTM is the new age of concern, - I'm in Canada so maybe it's different here.
