May 2026 Babies

Update (from hospital)

Hi Ladies,

So a little bit of an update from me. My water broke with lots of blood before dinner on Monday after I took the world's most massive poop. I was 29+1.

I came immediately to hospital which I'm glad is only a ten min drive away. I was on a NST for about four hours to monitor baby in L&D and started on steroids to mature baby's lungs and antibiotics to prevent infection in case I went into labour.

Thankfully that has not happened, but I'm still in hospital for monitoring. I had an ultrasound and my cervix is closed, also thankfully, so hoping baby girl cooks a while longer.

Really wanting to go home but also feel comfortable with the monitoring I am getting here. I saw the antenatal care team who would follow me as an outpatient three times a week if I get discharged and in order to go home I need to be off iv antibiotics and have baby facing either head down or butt down (to make sure no risk of cord prolapse).

This has made not showing up for work interesting but I've got lots of sick time and my only job is to chill and not stress.

Appreciate all the kind thoughts that I know you'll throw my way!

One day at a time. One day at a time.

  • Oh my goodness!! I’m sure this has been terrifying. So sorry you’re experiencing this, but so thankful you haven’t gone into labor. Sounds like your medical team is taking great care of you and baby girl! Definitely sending positive thoughts and energy your way 🤍 keep us updated!

  • Oh no! Thinking of you, glad things seem to be okay, keep us posted!
  • Oh my goodness, what an eventful night! The fact that your cervix is closed is a really really good sign. What do they think caused your water to break?
  • They said it was spontaneous and bound to happen eventually since it happened. I still blame the brick of a poop 🤣

We are both still here in hospital and taking it one day at a time. I don't know if I want to go home with a rambunctious almost three year old always prone to jump on my belly, but can't stay here forever. My back hurts mostly from being in bed most of the time. I think I took like 440 steps today.

The good thing is my son seemingly puts himself to sleep for dad now??? Small miracles!
  • That is absolutely a small miracle! Well keep us posted—it sounds like things are at least somewhat under control now. And whenever you do get to go home, COLACE! 😂
  • Wow, thanks for letting us know. I hear you on the almost three year old jumping on you, mine is 3.5 and is all elbows and accidental head butts around my belly. Best wishes, hope you're able to destress. ❤️‍🩹
  • Literally I've been telling all the postpartum moms take the stool softener!

I've been on Laxaday ever day since I've been here and it's been a great help.

Will get assessed tomorrow to see if I can go home if baby isn't transverse. Which she loves to be.
  • We are good! I'm 30+6 today and still here just chilling. Making friends with the nurses and getting used to seeing everyone regularly!

At this point I'm OK in the hospital and would prefer it rather than go home and get readmitted after two days when they see she isn't in ideal position again.

If the private beside me opens up I'll move into that (currently have a roommate who likes to talk) but won't take one if it doesn't have a window (I can't live in the dark for another 2 months if I make it to term).

So far so good though! I was nervous when the neonatologist said that they typically see delivery within two weeks but I'm still here and it's almost two weeks later. I do miss home comforts though. Massively.
  • Hope you're able to get a nice room with a window. Can your family bring you some things from home to make it cozier? Still having back pains from the bed or are they letting you walk around more? Internet hugs to you, hang in there

Every day she stays in there is worth celebrating, sounds like positive news overall! Glad you and baby are hanging in there and doing well 🫶 I hope you get your private room with a window!
  • Glad you’re doing ok! I worked in antepartum. You definitely want to stay there! We had families bring in a bunch of stuff from home like dvd players, fire stick, and mini fridge(if the room doesn’t already have one). Get comfortable!
  • Glad to hear baby is still keeping warm and cozy on the inside! Keep us posted!

  • So far still here!

I got to go home last weekend and pack my own bag properly which was great. Our hospitals in Canada are pretty basic. I'm in a shared room with another antepartum mom (she has HG). I have a great big window with light so I'm fine sharing for now. I can move to a private (covered by insurance) but it's pretty dark. If the next person I share with snores I may move though. I value what little sleep I get. Thankfully the beds in postpartum are much more comfortable than in L&D, for obvious reasons, and so the back pain is gone but all the other pregnancy pains are here to stay. I've got awesome nurses and got a day pass last week and can walk around the hospital or unit whenever I want so that's awesome.

So far so good! Hoping to get my next day pass next weekend for my son's 3rd birthday.
  • Thinking of you ❤️ glad you’re getting the care you need to keep you and baby well!!!!
  • You’re doing great travellingjess! I would want the sunlight too. Though sharing a room with someone who has HG must be a little tough
  • Luckily she's not puking when she has the medicine in our room. She is Afghani and a refugee with little English so I have been helping her a little bit where I can.
