Anyone else having contractions?

I'm due St. Patrick's Day but either he's eager to be in the real world or my due date is off. He's my second, and with my first, I didn't have contractions like this until about 3 - 4 weeks before her arrival. I don't think Braxton Hicks feels intense like this. The best way to describe the feeling would be period cramps on steroids. I can't sit, stand, walk too long before I get uncomfortable from them. I called Labor and Delivery and the on call nurse said unless they're really close in an hour, my water breaks or I stop feeling him move there's no urgent need to come in.

Just wondering if any other mom's on here are feeling the same.

Re: Anyone else having contractions?

  • This sounds to me like prodromal labor if the contractions are very intense but not consistent or fizzle out after an hour or two. I had this with my 3rd baby, nearly 3 weeks of prodromal labor before she arrived at 39 weeks. If your water doesn't break, you aren't bleeding, and contractions don't get or stay consistent, then it's not true labor. Just your body taking getting ready for labor very seriously!

  • I have intense Braxton hicks contractions as well as real ones pretty regularly. I’m not worried about it. I just assume my body is getting ready. I had a contraction so intense last week I had to breathe through it and I could feel his head being pushed really hard into my pelvis. I still wasn’t worried.
  • Same here sis! All kinds varying in intensity and duration. Our bodies are just talking to us to prepare for the weeks to come.
  • Nothing here yet! I would be freaked out.
