1st Trimester

Any experiencing absolutely terrible acid reflux and constipation/gas pains?

Please help. I recently had a miscarriage and already have so much anxiety about my new symptoms and making it to the second trimester.

I have been dealing with terrible, uncomfortable acid reflux, constipation, and extreme gas cramps. It is preventing me from sleeping normally/regularly, eating, etc. I am just so miserable all the time. And I’m afraid something is wrong? I’ve called my dr and was only able to talk to a MA who said these tend to be normal but I’m looking for some sort of relief from anyone who’s experienced this?

  • That sounds really uncomfortable, and after a miscarriage it makes sense to feel extra anxious. Acid reflux, constipation, and gas are very common in the first trimester because hormones slow digestion. Eating smaller meals, staying upright after eating, drinking plenty of water, and adding gentle fiber can help. Some moms also find magnesium or a pregnancy safe probiotic useful. If your prenatal is worsening symptoms, switching to a gentler option like BabyBlues Prenatal can be easier on the stomach. If the pain or reflux keeps you from eating or sleeping, follow up with your OB for extra support.

  • Drinking a bit of water with baking soda has helped me get pretty immediate relief from reflux. Look up the ratios but I put about 1/4 tsp in a cup of water.
  • I take papaya enzyme chewables, they taste just like smarties. Helps w the acid reflux.
